the Enfield Club ride for 14th till 16th Aug,'09 had been planned for long, but the night before my little princess had severe cold and we decided to dropout from the group ride, but I accompanied the 8 Royal Enfields next morning upto Jalahalli on my Thunderbird, and shocked them with the news of my absence in the ride, anyways bid them goodbye and the riders carried on. same night my wife and I decided that we will join the riders in our car next morning. we left at 5am and reached Kemmangundi by 12 noon after 2 short breaks, before the riders arrived from Chikmagalur(the bikers stayed at CKM previous night). overjoyed to see us join them , had lunch together at K-gudi, and went for trekking till Z point, the view was awesome, and trek was dead tiring.then we rode down to Kalahhati falls(most uneventful place) finally rode back to chikmagalur. Most importantly, its not what we did or how we enjoyed, the road upto Chikmagalur is fine via NH206,completely straight, no chance of getting lost, but from tarikere its real bad, and after Lingdahalli its worse, all travellers are requested to stay away from Kemmangundi, nothing worth spending time, specially for travellers on car, while the drive/ride back to Chikmagalur from Kemmangundi was awesome with sharp and blind bends, have to be really careful though. I have been driving and riding on my Bull to various other hill stations, but this was the worst, Bull riders will surely be delighted since its a dream route with mud pools, broken roads, slate like roads at times, you get a complete experience of off roading and speedways, a reminder to travellers, pls avoid Kemmangundi unless you plan to ride on a Bullet.Of course, the visit to Belur was worth it, my daughter was thrilled to get to walk barefoot on such a huge open space. overall experience was good, but my rating of Kemmangundi wud be 4 of 10.
