The NGO Janaagraha initiated website ipaidabribe.com conducted a survey across 601 cities with 23137 bribe reports. Of the reported 23137, 18096 people confessed to paying the bribe, while 710 people maintained they were honest officers. The total amount paid as a bribe is Rs. 64.09 crore . Bangalore tops the list of most corrupt cities with 5359 confessions and bribe amounting to Rs. 16.64 crore, that's 26% of the total bribe paid. If we see the department wise statistics of reported bribes then the Police is the most corrupt with 5492 confessions and bribe amount of Rs. 6.05 crore.

Although the survey gives us a rough picture of country's corruption, 23137 is a small figure in this billion strong country, the real picture might be much more horrific. However, the initiative must be lauded, it's a good step towards anti-corruption.
