Born as Rajiv Bhatia on 9 September 1967 in Amritsar, his entry into the film industry was rather surprising as he had no ambition of becoming an actor. In 1994, with Main Khiladi Tu Anari and Mohra, he emerged as a star. He himself used to perform dangerous stunts in his films which gave him the tag ‘King of Action.’

Akki is a versatile actor and he has proved it by moving away from action to comedy. His comic skills also came to light with Hera Pheri, Phir Hera Pheri, Garam Masala and much more. He also showed his romantic shade in films like Yeh Dillagi, Dil To pagal Hai.

Akshay won his first Filmfare Award for Best Villain in 2001 for his negative role in the film Ajnabee. The year 2007 proved to be his most successful year during his career with no flops and four major hits in Namastey London, Heyy Baby, Bhool Bhulaiya and Welcome. But the following years have not been so great for Akki as most of his films failed to do any wonders at the box office. The only saving grace for him during this time was Singh Is Kinng.
