If you are in the market for a steel building and you are considering Armstrong Steel, I would highly recommend doing research on this company. Don’t be deceived by claims of having the best building on the market or by a fancy website. Armstrong Steel has an extensive Terms and Conditions that is shockingly biased in their favor, which essentially relieves them of liability and prohibits legal recourse for any reason. Read every word of, and negotiate these Terms and Conditions before signing! Also, you should not enter into contract if they refuse to quote the basic building features that you want, such as the length and width, wall height, roof pitch, window and door openings, insulation, etc. They may provide a low price quote for a basic building that is almost what you had in mind with their assurance that you can make changes later, but keep in mind that all change orders will significantly increase the final cost of your building. These following key facts, which occurred between October 2014 and July 2017, are what lead to this negative review of Armstrong Steel. I could have forgiven some of these wrongdoings, but the sum of all of them is just too overwhelming. This is a long read, but you’ll be glad you did. Armstrong Steel’s website offered to instantly quote a building based on my desired dimensions. Armstrong did not provide any such online price quote. This was just a means of gathering contact information. Armstrong Steel said that I just missed a sale that they were having on buildings but they had a building leftover from the sale that is close to the size I wanted, which is deceptive because no part of a building is fabricated until after the design phase of your project. Armstrong Steel said that if I entered into a contract by the end of that business day, they could sell the building to me at the sale price. I asked Armstrong Steel some questions that would make or break the deal. Armstrong Steel assured me that they had contractors in my area that could prepare the site, pour the footers, and pour the slab floor. Their deception on this matter would later become an enormous problem. Armstrong Steel then offered me free freight and promised that I would be locked into a steel price. Based on Armstrong Steel’s answers to the questions that I had asked, the steel price guarantee, and free freight I decided to sign the contract and make a down payment. The design phase of this project was the only enjoyable interaction I would have with Armstrong. This was a lot of fun, but Armstrong Steel would go weeks without responding to my questions. The building package that they sell you is extremely basic without any door or window openings. After adding the features I wanted to their basic package, the price of the building essentially doubled. When the design of the building was complete I wanted to get started on the concrete part of the project. I asked Armstrong for a list of their concrete contractors that are located in my area. The closest contractor they could refer me to was 180 miles away. The estimate from this contractor was more than 250 percent of the original building cost itself. A large portion of this estimate was for travel and hotel expenses. Armstrong argued that 180 miles is considered in my area. I told Armstrong that, just because a contractor is willing to service my area, that doesn’t mean they are in my area. I told Armstrong I would not have entered into contract if they had not assured me that they did had contractors in my area. Armstrong stopped responding to my e-mail, so I wrote to more senior personnel. Armstrong was unsympathetic.
