I had planned for my honeymoon at Gangtok(Sikkim) and had booked a room at hotel Delamere for a couple of days with the view that I would only extend my stay at the same place if I found it to be nice. Boy O Boy, was this the right place to be!
My wife and I travelled to Bagdogra and managed to reach Gangtok late in the evening(due to some strike, we were delayed by a couple of hours.) I had contacted Mr. Bhanu Pratap over email for room booking. I got in touch with him over the phone to ask for directions to the hotel.
This property is situated near the old Taxi stand on Church street and is a bit off the main road. Hence, it took us some time to locate the place. From outside, the place looks very small. However, as they say, good things come in small sizes. The foyer and reception area is exquisite. The receptionist(I keep forgetting the gentleman’s name) was very helpful. He planned out an extended tour of Gangtok and North Sikkim for us on his own at very reasonable rates. The entire tour package worked out to around Rs. 14800(including travel, food and stay at North Sikkim).
The room at Delamere was quite comfortable and cozy. The restaurant attached to the hotel had fabulous food and we particularly enjoyed their Manchurian and Thukpa(noodle soup). The quantity and quality of food is extremely good and we had a blast. The hotel also had a bonfire arranged for us one night.
All in all, this is one of the best facilities that I’ve ever been to and would definitely recommend to all those who plan to visit the beautiful city of Gangtok.
P.S. Ask for Pradeep Lama to be your driver and tour guide. the chap is quite resourceful, cheery and fun to be with.
