We were in Gangtok in first week of December 2008. It was a honeymoontrip. I booked a suite with MAP plan in this hotel through its web site. TheHotel is situated at a very good location which is very near to MG Marg and onecan appreciate the view of Kanchanjangha from windows of this hotel. The overallimpression of hotel and staff was good during our stay. Our suite room was bigand clean with wooden flooring.
Now Let me point out some positive and negativepoints which, I hope, would really help in selecting this hotel,
(+ive) Points:
(1)The staff was very friendly and helpful. Ibooked my trip to Nathula Pass and 7points from its travel desk. The trip was organizedvery well but it was overpriced. They took around Rs. 5000/ for both the trips. But later I came to know that the same trips could have been available in Rs.3500/- to Rs. 4000/-.
(2)The View from our room was unforgettable. I canstill remember that we were getting ready for Nathula Pass at around 6:30AM inthe morning and I opened the window of my room. The view of Kanchanjangha, inreddish orange light of rising sun, was so beautiful that we couldn’t blink oureyes for next 2 minutes.
(3)The staffat the hotel was very friendly and good in nature.
(4)The interior of the room was OK but notimpressive.
(5)The taste of Aloo Paratha was yummmm but unexpectedlyTea was furrrr….
(-ive) Points:
They have their kitchen at the back of the hotel and itwas a bit far from my room so whenever the food was served in my room, we nevergot it hot.
The geyser in my room worked properly but the input waterwas so cold that the geyser could not heat much even at a moderate flow rate ofwater.
The room heater was not available in room and when weasked for a heater, the heater was not available in the hotel. So at firstnight, we slept there without the heater and it was a bit cold. The nextday we got a heater but the guy at reception asked for Rs. 100/- per day charge. Please somebody tell them it looks odd when the guy on reception is asking formoney for heater. The heater is a basic need in Gangtok and it should be complementaryor included in room charges.
They were very slow in delivering food, sometimes theytook 45-50 minutes to serve food in room. The breakfast was complementaryaccording to our plan and on very first day we got toast, butter, tea and AlooParathas. But next day the butter was missing and on third day even AlloParatha was missing. It was not intentional but a result of mismanagement.
Well, overall experience in this hotel was good butsometimes I still feel that the hotel was overpriced and not the value formoney. I am giving this statement because from Gangtok we went to Darjeeling andstayed in Cedar Inn. And I can skip from comparison of two hotels that wereavailable at the same price and had a vast differences.
