Gerald is the youngest in a family consisting of their widowed mother. The way Gerald Durrell describes them is unbeatable. Durrell spent most of his time in the company of an ayah. He studied in St Josephs School North Point Darjeeling.
Gerald was very observant boy who has ,throughout the book, describes each animal in detail. We can also say that he is nature-loving and curious to know about nature. Also, he is very silent as whenever a guest, such as the Turk, cam to their house, all the family members talked but Gerald didn’t say a word. he was also very friendly as among all the family members he was the one with the most friends. He was quick learner as he was the only member to have learnt Greek language.
