I just purchased this video and watched it last night with my husband. I wasnt expecting to be as frightened as I was, but I wanted to compare it to the original 60s version and I love scary movies anyway.
The thing is, with todays scary movies you can usually expect some humor to lighten the fear factor. The humor in this movie, however, was minimal. One character, Maggie, had all the funny lines, (and believe me, they were funny). This was one seriously scary movie.
Tony Shaloub was perfect as the father and the kids did a fine job too.
But the real up-and-comers were the ghosts. They were 12 (yes, I said 12) of the scariest ghosts Ive ever seen in a movie. (The 13th comes around later) There was basically no place to feel safe in the house and the few places that were safe, eventually, became unsafe. I sat on the edge of the couch through most of the movie. I didnt relax at all after the first minute.
I dont want to give anything away so I will just finish with this: If you want a great scare, see this movie, but dont let it be the last thing you do before going to bed, because you will have nightmares.
