John Cusack is a writer who does not believe in
ghosts. He visits haunted places to prove that ghosts do not exist and gives
scientific explanation of the happenings. Then he writes books of his
experiences.
One day, he decides to visit the famous room 1408 of Dolphin hotel in New York.
The manager, Samuel Jackson, advises him not to stay in this room and pick any
other room. He tells him about the horrific deaths of people who have stayed in
this room. He says, he does not want John to stay in this room because he want
to save him, but he does not want to clean up the mess, blood stains, etc after
Johs death. But John insists on staying in the room.
So, does Johns perspective about ghosts change? Or he proves that the ghost
stories are fake and comes out alive? Check the movie and see yourself.:-)

The movie somewhat lives its expectations. Samuel Jackson has a very short role
in the movie. The horror effects are good, but didnt turn out to be scary. In
between, the movie loses its grips when John is suffering from halucination,
but the end catches on again.
For thos who do not know, there are two versions of the movie. One is
theatrical release and other is DVD release. The last 0.5 hr of both the movies
is different and has alternate ends.
