I came to India after a gap of nearly 3 years. What I noticed is that the Private Radio and the TV stations are biased . They just want to promote the songs of 2 or 3 music directors only.
I was surprised to see that Media is forgetting Laxmikant-Pyarelal’s contributions in the Hindi Film Music. LP has dominated the Hindi Film music. I have selected the Kishor Kumar’s songs only with music directors Laxmikant-Pyarelal.
I remember in 1965/1966 Kishor Kumar was passing through the toughest time of his carrier. None of the music directors were giving the songs for Kishor Kumar, including the BURMANS( both Father and Son) **. SD prefer Mohammad Rafi to sing the songs for “Guide”(1966), excepting one duet of Kishor Kumar with Lata. RD never bother to go for Kishor Kumar in “Teesari Manzeel”(1966) . All songs by Mohammad Rafi.
Laxmikant-Pyarelal, whose previous but notable association with the singer was limited to Kishore Kumar’s acting vehicles like “Mr X In Bombay”, (1965), “Shriman Funtoosh” (1965), “Pyar Kiye Jaa” (1966) and “Hum Sab Ustad Hain” (1965), had begun to employ Kishore Kumar sporadically. All the songs in the above films are still popular.
Laxmikant-Pyarelal were relatively new in the mid sixties and they have given equal importance to Kishor and Rafi.
Any way.let us view some of the selected songs of Kishor Kumar only with Laxmikant-Pyarelal
Mere Mehaboob Quayamat Hogi “Mr. X In Bombay” 1965
The very first song of LP-Kishore combination. In 1965 one evening Laxmikant and Pyarelal went to Kishor Kumar’s house and offered this tune. Kishor was so happy to here the tune. He told his gardener that see this two boys has bring very sweet tune for me. Kishore’s judgment was correct. The song is still popular today and one can feel the “dard” in Kishor’s voice. Kishor has used some special voice for this song. When we watch this movie and see that Kishore himself is singing this song gives healthy impression for this song.
Ajanabee Ajanabee Tum Jane Pehachane Se “Hum Sab Ustad Hai” 1965
This song is all time hit song and still popular among the Kishor Kumar fans. It is still fresh. This song is picturised on Kishor Kumar himself. The same song is also sung by Lata Mangeshkar but I like this one.
Yeh Dard Bhara Afasana Sunle Anjan Jamana “Shreeman Fantush” 1965
Till I purchased the audio CD for this song, I was under the impression that this music composition is by SJ… The reason behind was simple, the Accordion used in SJ style. Excellent use of Accordion. The song is framed on Kishore Kumar himself.
Mere Naseeb Main Ai Dost Tera Pyar Nahin “ Do Raaste” 1969.
Kishore LP offering to the new phenomenon Rajesh Khanna. The first song of
Khanna Rajesh -Kishor Kumar-Laxmikant-Pyarelal…combination. One of the best of LP as well as Kishore.
Yahan Wahan Sare Jahan Main Tera Raj Hai “ Aan Milo Sajana” 1970.
This ’fizz’ical song is responsible for adopting Rajesh Khanna his own style which is still popular as on today. Excellent use of Dholak by LP….
Main Jahan Chala Jaun .Main Ban Phool “Banphool” 1970
One of the best folk song sung by Kishore Kumar. Picturised on Jeetendra.
Sachchai Chhup Nahin Sakatee…Vada Tera Vada “Dushman” 1971
LP once again breaking fresh ground by giving Kishore-da a mujra-cum-qawwali. The famous Rajesh Khanna style was at its peak in this song.
Mere Deewanepan Ke Bhi Dawa Nahin “Mehaboo Ki Mehandi” 1971
Yet another sweet melody from LP-Kishore. A languorous ghazal, picturised on Rajesh Khanna.
Yeh Jeevan Hai “Piya Ka Ghar” 1971
This beautiful melodious song composed in western style and still considered a front-ranker among the songs of Kishore, LP as well.
Hal Kya Hai Dilon Ka “Aanokhi Ada” 1972
This Quwwali song is picturised on Jeetendra.
Mere Dil Main Aaaj Kya Hai “Daag” 1973
This was Yash Chopras, first film under the banner of Yash Raj’s Films. L-P had luck and consistency always on their side and 1973 saw them use Kishore Kumar to devastating effect in original for this song and what a result. Rajesh Khanna has proved that this song is for him only. Here I would like to say that please listen to the orchestra conduction. LP has done good use of Irani Santoor and the Guitar.
Gam Ka Fasana “Manchali” 1973
Yet another sweet and melodious song. Original LP style Dholak and on top of it Sanjeev Kumar’s comic acting.
Gaadi Bula Rahie Hai Siti Baja Rahi Hai “Dost” 1974
This song is play in the background and always sung around actor Dharmendra throughout the film. It was one of the biggest hit songs and chartbuster in 1974…
Rook Jana Nahin Tu Kahin Har Ke “Imtihan” 1974
Yet another song in picturised in the background around Vinod Khanna. Certainly one of the best of Kishore Kumar. The military instrument ‘bigul” has been used excellently by LP.
Nahi Main Nahin Dekh Sakata “Majaboor” 1974
Simple, catchy but melodious and extremely popular song of Kishore-LP, picturized on Amitabh Bachchan.
Jane Chaman Jane Bahar “Dulhan” 1975
Breezing melody for Jeetendra from LP-Kishore.
Aapke Anurodh Pe Main Ye Geet Sunata Houn “Anurodh” 1977
This film has 4 sweetest songs for KK for Rajesh Khanna. But this is the best.
Dakiya Dak Laya “Palkon Ki Chhaon Man” 1977
The esoteric song especially written for the postman. Gulzar has written this song and the way Kishore Kmar has sung one can easily point out that this must be for Rajesh Khanna.
Kisi Shayar Ki Gazal . Deram Girl “Drem Girl” 1977
This unique western style song perhaps written by Anand Baxi only for Hema Malini. This was Hema Malini’s home production. The song is in background around Dharmendra. Kishore has sung in different mood and the way, the orchestra has been conducted shows LP were truly masters.
My Name Is Anthony Gonsalvis “Amar Akabar Anthony” 1977
LP has dedicated this song to Pyarelal’s Guru Anthony Gonsalvis…Amitabh Bachchan has acted excellently to boost up the popularity of this song. Once again excellent orchestra.
Ek Ritu Aaye Ek Ritu Jaye Mosam Badale Na “Goutam Govinda” 1978
Yet another variety song from KK-LP.only for Shatrughan Sinha.
Om Shanti Om “Karz” 1980
Perhaps the best disco song in the Hindi Film Industry. Once again LP’s orchestra conduction at its peak. Rishi Kapoor’s dance on HMV disc give more pleasure to watch this song in the movie.
Akela Gaya Han Main, Mere Sang Sang Aaya “Rajput” 1981
Yet another top class the Horse Foot Stepping musical hit from KK-LP only for Rajesh Khanna.
Rote Rote Hasana Sikho “Andha Kanoon” 1981
Extremely popular song from KK LP for Amitabh Bachchan.
