Of all the’Top 20’ I have written so far I found Mohd Rafi the toughest. Now the same level of difficulty is with Kishore. So the it comes down to’what I like the most’ than an objective list of songs that can be selected on the merit of Composition, Lyrics, Kishore’s voice & the filming that affects the effectiveness of the songs.
Kishore was highly influenced by Saigal when he started his career & did sing a few songs like him. Ashok Kumar also mentioned in his writing that Kishore didn’t have very good voice & he had some infection/disease that made him cry so much that his voice got cleared! *I thank from all the fans to that disease that made Kishore’s voice so brilliant!*:-) Kishore was also a master of **’yodeling’**, the only singer in Hindi films to use it to perfection.
This genius was highly versatile & he was a master when it came to all the departments of the film making, only role he couldn’t do was maybe that of a female!:) or wait a minute, he did that too *(1)Aake Sidhi Lagi Dil pe jaise katariya(2) suniye Suniye aaj kal ki ladakiyon ka program*. Originality thy name is Kishore.
His appearance in Padosan has been mentioned in several of my reviews(5 Best Comedies, 10 Best Scenes/Moments)

*(1) Thandi Hawa ye chandani suhani ay mere dil suna koi kahani(Zhumaroo)*
Start with Asha/Lata’s humming(Madhubala on piano) Initial hehehe? by Kishore & then the idea song/lyrics to hear in the night time.’Feel Good’ Song!:)’*Sare Hasin najare, Sapano main kho gaye, Sir rakh ke aasamape parbat bhi so gaye*’
*(2) Ek Ladaki Bhigi Bhagisi(Chalati Ka Nam Gadi)*
The magician singer & the princess of Indian cinema make this an all time great song with thousands of singers mimicking it.
*(3) Woh Sham Kuchh Ajeeb Thi, Ye Sham bhi Ajeeb hain.Woh kal bhi pas pas thi, woh aaj bhi kareeb hain(? Rajesh, Wahida)*
A very romantic song at the peak of Rajesh Khanna’s popularity. R.D & Kishore deserve 40% each for Rajesh Khanna’s popularity, he can take maybe 20%!:)
*(4) Pyar Hame kis mod pe le aaya.Ke Dil kare haay, koi ye bataye kya hoga(Satte Pe Satta)*
Halla-Gulla Song. Kishore starts with a deep/calm voice initially(*pyar main jab-bhi aankh kahi lad jaye.tab dhadkan aur bechainni tadapaye*) & then aftrwards the song becomes *real fast*. I have a soft corner for this song as I got an award for this song in a’Bad Singing’ competition!:-)
*(5) Tum Bin Jawu kaha, Duniya main ake, Kuchh na phir chaha kabhi tumko chahake*
Both Rafi & Kishore have given their best in these songs. Kishore sometimes appears in the influence of Manna Dey specially singing classical or philosophical songs. In this song also I think he has sung like Manna Da.
*(6) Mana Janaab ne pukara nahi, Kya mera sath bhi gawara nahi(Paying Guest)*
A playful song, famous for the bicycle’tring-tring’!
*(7) Salam-E-Ishq meri jan jara kubul karalo, tum humse pyar karane ki jarasi bhul karalo Mera Dil Bechain(Mukaddar ka Sikander)*

Kishore singer & Kishore as actor. Lo ane laga phir jindagi ka maja!
*(9) Rim Zhim Gire Sawan, Sulag Sulag jaye man(Mazhil)*
Jab Ghunaruonki Bajati hain Bunde.Araman hamare palae na munde.Kaise dekhe sapane nayan sulag sulag jaye mun
Mehphil main kaise kehe de kisise Dil bandh raha hain kisi janabee se.Haay kare ab kya jatan.sulag sulag jaye mun
*(10) Ek Roj Main Tadapkar iss dil ko tham lunga.Mere Hasin katil, Main Tera Nam lunga(Bemisal)*
Again, a personal favorite, Kishore has given a very different soft voice to Amitabh in this song. Amitabh has given very subtle yet perfect performance in this song. The way he changes the expressions between the lines & away from her sights is worth a study. Mark of a great actor on a relatively straightforward song.
*(11) Aapke Anurodh pe main geet sunata hun.Main Ye geet sunatat Hun(Anurodh)*
The lyrics of this song are one of the best. Comparbel to another Kishore hit: Aaj Madhosh huwa jayere(Ori kali saja tu doli) Neeraj?
Tarif Main jisaki karata hun Kya roop hain woh kya khushabu hain.Kuchh baat nahi aisee koyee yeh ek suron ka jaddo hain.
Koyal ki ek kook se sabake mun main aunh uthata hun.
*(12) Aanewala Pal, Janewala Hain(Gomaal)*
Everyone knows about this song.
*(13) Jindagi ka Safar, Hain ye kaisa safar(Safar)*
Rajesh Khanna was prob’ly the last romantic & tragic hero. Amitabh’s’angry young man’ just *killed* characters like these. Changing social order affected it anyways.
*(14) Khilate hain Gul yahan Vs Nadiya Se Dariya, Dariya Se Sagar, Sagar Se Gehera jaam or Main Shayar Badanam(Namak Haram)*
Couldn’t decide which one to keep in the review! Well, I go with Khilate hain gul yahan. For Romantic Hero Shashi, Romantic Song from Kishore.
*(15) Ake Sidhee lagi dil pe jaise katariya(Half Ticket)*
Do read this one in my 10 best moments review mentioned above. Kishore sung the female part as Lata was late to the studio!
*(16) Khubasurat Hasina Jan-E-Ja Jan-E-Man(Mr X in B’bay?)*
This song has a very appealing tune & ultimate performance by Kishore.
*(17) Manzhile apani jagah aur rasate apani jagah, gur kadam hi sath na de, to musafir kya kare(Sharabi)*
Very good performance by the singer & the actor. Kishore gives a very good change in the tone with *Dubane Wale ko & Pyra karan jurma hain to
*(18) Hum Hain Rahi Pyar ke hum se kuchh na boliye(9 2 11)*
One of my favorite songs. I really like to sing & listen to this song. It has a magical Kishore & Den Anand touch. A careless character in transit singing *Jo bhi pyar se mila hum usi ke ho liye* Philosophy without any baggage!:)
*(19) Aa chal ke tuzhe main leke chalu ek aise gagan ke tale*
Great lyrics & performance from Kishore. Like Zhumaroo I think this movie also features him as the Music director?
*(20) Wada Tera Wada, Wade Pe tere Mara gaya banda main sidha sadha(? Rajesh)*
Check out the kawwali, if not all time great it is one of the best.(Tumhari Julf hain, Sadak ka mod hain ye)
