Probably one of the biggest movies after Gadar & Laggan for Bollywood is 23rd March 1931 - Shaheed.
The centre stage of the movie is Bhagat Singh. Though the story of Bhagat Singh has been told by our media a lot of times, for people who hardly know anything about this great freedom fighter, the movie is worth a watch. Being an important part of our history, there is no doubt that this is one of the courageous stories which must be seen by the current and future generations.
The story goes as follows:
======================
The movie basically begins with Bhagat Singhs life in his younger days when all his people and homeland is taken away by the British and witnessing atrocities as he grows.
The JallianWalla Bagh Massacre & the award of death penalty to a close friend ignite the fire in him. Soon he joins Chandrashekar Azad & also witnesses the death of his close family friend lala Lajpati Rai and decides to take the matter into his hands. Bhagat Singh immediately kills the police officer who beat Lala Lajpati Rai and to save his life goes hiding. He gets arrested when he sneaks into the Central Assembly with a friend and causes a commotion by chucking bombs and showering pamphlets all over the assembly.
Unfortunately he is executed a day earlier than scheduled and leaving INDIA with an irreparable loss....
The cast of this movie is excellent.... Bobby Deol is for sure to add a feather in his cap and is excellent in his performance. Sunny Deol does justice to his role however his dialogue sequence is not attractive. Rahul Dev and Vicky Ahuja do justice to their roles and not to forget Amrita Singh... She is brilliant and is way too good in her role. Suresh Oberoi as a jailor & Aishwarya Rai in her little appearance do their part pretty well.
The flash back of 1920s is extra ordinarily well done. Credits to Thiru for his excellent camera work. Tinu Vermas action sequence is average while Anand Raj Anands music is effective.
However the movie justifies the life of the Martyr but is too emotional. Thanks to the work of the Artists, cameraman and musicians to make it a worthwhile cinema. It is entertainment but will make sure you shed a tear or two when you finish.
