This film is narrated through parallel dramas, one in present and other ten years in the past.
This movie is about the friendship of three students at an Indian Engineeeing College and is satire about the social pressure under an Indian education system. In this movie Aamir khan play the role of Ranchoddas Chanchad nicknamed "Rancho".
This movie won six Filmfare Awards. Overseas,
it won the Grand Prize at Japan's Videoyasan Awards.
