This was my reaction when I saw the movie. Neither a single dialogue nor a single scene seemed useless or irrelevant to me in the entire movie. A humorous yet logical way to show us how the younger generation is pressurized with so much competition. Needless to say, the rat race is literally killing students. The original story “Five Point Someone by Chetan Bhagat was indeed a brilliant plot but the movie with its own story deviations and awesome direction has reached new heights in Indian cinema.
Three students Rancho, Farhan and Raju from different backgrounds and different mentalities enter an elite engineering college. Raju who belongs to a lower middle class family aims to be an engineer just to find a job and support his paralytic father, an over-burdened mother and an over-aged sister. Farhan, who’s more passionate towards wild life photography, joins engineering on the insistence of his father and seeks nothing, going where his passion doesnt lie. Rancho, who on the other hand is passionate toward engineering and learning new things as a whole, enjoys being in the college despite unfavorable teaching methodologies and a pain-in-the-neck Principal Veeru Sahastrabuddhe.
Though the Principal is a person whos been in the college as a student, has excelled and is managing the college, it is fairly impossible for him to notice the flaws in the education system and realize the stress and burdens of unrealistic deadlines for assignments and tests. He, just like a tadpole in a well, feels this is how things work and should continue to work forever. When Rancho with his inquisitive nature, questions Veeru, it acts as an attack on his beliefs, to defend which, he tries various tricks to trouble the trio.
Despite all the ups and downs in the trios personal and academic life, they stand together, unshaken in the end and also excel following their passions. Raju gets over all his fears and finds a job. Farhan follows his heart and with Ranchos boosting, becomes a wild life photographer. Rancho turns out be a scientist who, with his inventions, helps reduce the burden of the common man. Though, grinders working with a motorbike âs battery, or a delivery aided by a vacuum cleaner were quite innovative ideas which I am not really sure would work, actually ! On a lighter note, the film teaches us not to run behind success. As Aamir’s character would say Achieve excellence and success follows.
How can I forget the awesome tracks ? My favorite is “Zubbie dubbie†though I loved all of them. “All is wellâ€, I guess would really work for all of us when we are stressed out and feel helpless. Haven’t tried it yet but I am quite positive it will help !
Last but not the least, I learned that life is short and we should enjoy the present moments instead of cribbing about the past or worrying about the future.
I hope the next generation doesnt feel the need to grow up again -
Give me some sunshine, give me some rain, give me another chance, I wanna grow up once again I simply loved the movie and would recommend it. Dont miss it.
