*I have been reading reviews of 300 by all critics and this had raised my expectation. I thought of 300 to be a classic but it was a big let down.
I hate to repeat the Story of the Movie yet I would do so briefly. Many centuries ago there was a mighty Persian or Iranian King called Xeres who ruled with authority he sends his emissary to Spartans the Brave Greek race. which rule Greece they are no match for Mighty Xeres but are surely in Valor.
Spartan King throws the Persians Kings emissary into the well for insulting the Spartan Queen and for daring to ask them to agree to Xeres’s authority. Its a comical scene where the Emissary who is supposed to be Persian is shown a Black African. anyone who knows little bit about History and Geography will tell you that Persians are fair skinned and Good looking people who are as good as Europeans if not better.
Killing of Persian Emissary leads to war against the Mighty Persian Army. who are a million strong. The Spartan King has not much support from his elders as they are no match the strength of Persians so he takes his best 300 Soldiers to the battle Field.
The Spartan 300 are superb battle harden soldiers who keep their duty and devotions to their land above everything and stand like a wall in face of Persian assault. There is a scene of confrontation between Emperor Xeres and Spartan King. Xeres is portrayed as an effimate and caricature of a King will all nose, ear and entire body pierced. and so are most of Persian Generals who look more of African then Persian.
In one scene they show Persian women in Xeres’s Harem most women are shown Dark and Ugly when we all known Persian Women are renowned for their beauty.
Apart from the unnessary Bloodletting. The director also tries to tell us the Politicians were more powerful than the kings and Queens of the period. When the queen has to offer her body to Bail out the King. As far as I think the kings word was the final authority in those times.
Bottom line I feel 300 is a highly overrated and a racist movie where the Greek Europeans address the Persians as Asian Barbarians more than once.i don’t understand what was all that for? was it for white Supremest? but on the whole 300 was a great dissapointment and I would also like to add the standard of movie critics has also gown down. how could they rate this movie so highly?
