Like every avid reader who will start writing a review on this topic, I too feel the burden of responsibility weighing heavily on my shoulders(or rather fingers). How do I choose from millions of great books.. by thousands of terrific authors? There has to be some streamlining.
So I am cutting down my options to popular paperback fiction by famous authors.
Still if I omit any obvious choice(to you) please forgive me. Its just too hard.
Kane and Abel - Jeffery Archer
This my all time favourite, and as I always say, if you havent read Kane and Abel, you havent lived !!! It tells the story of two individuals, Kane and Abel who are born at exactly the same instant but in compeletely different circumstances and surroundings. How they are destined to meet in life , clash and shape each others futures is what the book is all about. A MUST read.
The Eye of the Needle - Ken Follet
This was his first book, written when he was very young. The story of a spy , carrying secrets that could profoundly affect the outcome of the second World War, this book keeps you riveted till the very last page, with one of the best climaxs ever written. A classic.
A painted house - John Grisham
I know this might seem as a surprise selection to you and you must be wondering why I have overlooked The Firm and the Client . The reason is that in this book Grisham shows his versatility. There are no big law firms, no corporate lawsuits, no jury and no courtrooms. This a simple story about growing up. If you liked the serial The Wonder Years, you will devour this book.
Jurrassic Park - Micheal Crichton
If you have seen the movie, let me tell you the book is atleast 5 times better. Its easy to bring dinosaurs to life on screen, but to do through mere words is difficult. But Crichton manages to do it, even better so.
5.And then there were none - Agatha Christie
- Out of all the Christie whodunnits, this takes the cake, icing and the cherry. However intelligent you may be, if you can guess the suspense before it is revealed, then instantly apply for a Mensa membership.
It pains me end my list now..How I would have loved writing another 5. But we must respect the website. So, if you are left feeling dissatisfied with this list, I dont blame you. Feel free to comment.
