My ''desert island'' reads

The five best books I have ever read are ’The Catcher in The Rye’ by J.D Salinger, ’The Bell Jar’ by Sylvia Plath, ’A Suitable Boy’ by Vikram Seth, ’My Family and Other Animals’ by Gerald Durrell and ’Lolita’ by Vladmir Nabokov.

The reason I love these books is because even though they’re all so different I think they carry the essence of human character. I’ve been in love with Holden Caulfield of ’The Catcher in The Rye’ ever since I first read that book at twelve. I remember being so jealous of his younger sister, because she has such a cool brother.

But though Holden Caulfield has his charms, the narrator in ’The Bell Jar’ holds my interest, because she is so much like me! Or like anyone else of a certain age who feels ’’different’’ fron the general masses. Its lovely to know theres someone who feels the same way as you do.

As for ’A Suitable Boy’, I love its long narrative structure, and the way the story loops and whirls. it reads like a long gossipy story about a typical Indian middle class family. the only bad part is the fact that the book is so darn heavy, its hard to read in bed!

As for the other two, ’My Family and Other Animals’ is without a doubt the funniest book I have ever read. Also its descriptions of the animal world are delightfully funny as well as informative.

And ’Lolita’ is worth a read because it’s a love story with the most erotic nuances I have ever read. Sure, its a little disgusting at first but you tend to forget that once you’re in the midst of it.

So there you have it, my top five faves!
