I have seen only few review on Indian Literature. So I thought I will list some of the good books from Indian writers.
I have read so far hundreds of novel/short stories. Its difficult to list 5 best book. Well here are my all time five best books by Indian writers. Please note that these are my five best book which I have read so far. There are thousand of excellent book by excellent writers.
1) Godan - Prem Chand:
Neither Prem Chad nor Godan needs any kind of introduction. This is one of the best novel by Prem chand. Author tries to describe the life style of the two different society/people. I read almost all the books from Prem Chand except this one then one day I bought it and read it then I realized that this is a masterpiece by Prem Chand. One of the best. This novel is being translated in many Indian as well as foreign languages.
2) Raag Darbari - Shrilal Shukla:
When you buy a book you read it and if you like you read it again after couple of weeks or months. But would you like to read the book again after finishing. I did with this book. I read this book may be around 10 times. Shukla ji’s comments on everyone in this book is excellent. Let it be a corrupt politician, a modern student or an illiterate person. If you read this book for the first time you will find this as a comedy book. But if you read again you will be forced to think the level of corruption among the people. Shukla ji does a great work to expose that by using’Hasya Ras’
3) Maila Anachal - Phaniswer Nath Renu:
This novel is plotted in Bihar(as Renu is from Bihar). Based on this book even there is a serial also with same name. Renu’s masterpieces is a social novel that describes the life of a village and its people, the backwardness and innocence. This is one of the best novel in the post-Premchand period, the novel radically changed the structure and narrative style in Hindi novels.
4) Mahasamr - Narendra Kohli:
This book is based on mahabart(you can call it Modern Mahabhart). We all know what happen in mahabhart but this book does the psychological analysis of every character. Authors tries to live every character. The analysis is so convincing that you will feel that they(characters in mahabhart) are not any extraordinary people but normal people like you and me. Kohli also got award by’Sahitya Academy’ for this book.
5) Malgudi Days - K R Narayanan:
This is not a novel but collection of short stories by the well noted author. Every story is excellent. I first saw the serial and then I read the book. Its simply great.
After writing this review I though that I should change the review heading to’Top 10 Hindi books’ and add 5 more. But that I will do in the next review.
