Hey, let me get this straight up front. This is my personal choice only and these are 5 books that actually made a huge contribution to my life. A few years ago, there was me, the fiction addict, devouring all titles of sidney sheldon, jeffery archer, tom clancy, robin cook, and even Harold robbins (Glorified porn- his literary style!! Tch Tch). However, as they say, there has to be a time in everyones life where people grow up (not to thums up!) and there has to be a change in priorities and attitude. My change came about a year ago. By the way, I am not 150 years old, I am just 23, call it an early awakening!
I happened to run out of fiction and I picked up a book which had quite an ambitious title and my personality has changed ever since.
1) How to win friends and influence people- This title by dale carnegie almost made me laugh by being presumptuous! I had tons of friends. However, after reading the book, I realised it was not to be. This title, about 200 pages and in easy read font, is not easy reading. It contains practical down to earth principles from one of the most successful people of all time- Andrew Carnegies life. Especially haunting is the success of Charles Schwab. When you read it, ull know who (I have become a bit of a suspense writer here!)
2) Who moved my cheese- This book has made me take a bold decision in my life and I quit my job to come into a business of my own. I am a happy man today! Ive already written a review on this book.
3) Power of positive thinking- Dr Norman Vincent Peale-
This is one book which will take a long time to digest, but once done, you will notice an almost immediate change of attitude and way of life about yourself. The only thing which we need to get used to, is the frequent reference to Jesus. If we arent Christians, just replace this word with God and everything else is awesome!
4) You Can Win- Shiv Khera- In my current profession, I am required to talk to quite a few people daily and quite a lot of them turn out into pep talks. This book has truly helped me spice up my oratory capabilities! Each story in this book is a masterpiece and works very well when told in public. Shiv Khera is very effective in delivering the message he wanted to!
5) Wings of Fire- Dr Abdul Kalam- This book made me proud of the fact that I am an Indian. Dr Abdul kalam has come up the hard way in life and this is sort of his life story and his ideologies about life.
By the way, I didnt mean to be philosophical about this review, but without revealing the plots, this was the best I could say. And for those of you who reveal plots in reviews, remember, that too is piracy! Royalty which ought to go to authors is getting hampered as people might not purchase the real book at all.
