I happen to watch this movie after a long time in DVD. To sum up in one sentence, this movie was brutally honest and well made. It still evokes the feeling of empathy for thye lead actors.
I am not going to dwell into the story as I am sure all of you are aware of it.
ACTING : For a first timer, Ravi Krishna has done a good job. He still has to improve voice modulation as it is kind of flat many times. Buit he fits the role of an aimless youth who later gets transformed into a successful man.
Sonia agarwal has done a superb job. She has simply lived the role of Anitha - a no-nonsense, sensible girl who considers and respects her family and is torn between her love and her loyalty to her family.I couldnt believe that she was the same girl who had accepted a sick movie like Oru Naal Oru Kanavu. That movie was a torture to sit through. but then back to the present, apart from that Vijayan has given a fantastic perfomance. As a father who is distressed with his wayward son and later is proud of his son, he has involved with his character very well. I could identify many fathers with him. My favourites are the scenes where he laments and berates the son when he has failed in his exams and the one where he speaks to his prodly on his sons achievements after scolding him early on. The reason he gives for his actions are so touching that I began to think of times when my parents had scolded me. Also the reaction of Kathir on overhearing his father is simply superb. They look like a leaf out of real life. Others in the movie whom I like are Kathirs mother and Lakshmi his friend who cares for him.
MUSIC : Music is simply mind blowing in this movie. I like all the songs and my favourites are January Madham, Ninaithu Ninathu(Male) , Idhu Porkalama and Kan Pesum. Ninaithu Ninathu Song is so soulful that in blue moods , I was almost at tears.
DIRECTION : Selva raghavan is so daring and honest in his approach. Making a tragic film successful is not easy and few people like Bala and Selva can do it. The climax is so shocking and anithas actions are so daring in the context of Kalacharam ...It was a surprise that nobody protested against this movie.. I saw many people here voicing that January madham song was unnecessary. But I felt it was necessary. Kathirs reaction to accusations at the hospital can be felt only if the impact of anithas decision and the subsequent action is registered. To do that you need to intersperse it with a song otherwise, it might turn out to be crude and cheap. By way of the song, lyrics and its picturisation, Selva had conveyed the mood perfectly within acceptable bounds
To put it succintly, 7 G Rainbow colony is movie that will linger in your minds long enough by sheer tight screenplay and frankness.
