I just finished watching a awesome movie. The main star of this movie is a young man who is a famous rap star. Yes he is white, and yes he is wide known in the public eye. If you guessed his name to be Eminem then you are right. The movie is called 8 Miles and I have to say it was better then what I thought it was going to be.
You hear so much bad stuff about this rapper all the negative publicity and his music is sometimes not suitable to listen too. Therefore I figured this movie was going to be all about bad things and stupid stuff, man was I wrong. Let me begin with a little information about the plot of the movie.
Plot
The movie is about a white boy trying to make it in the rap world. His name is Jimmy Smith Jr, or better know around the neighborhood as Rabbit. Played by Eminem . You see Rabbit was raised by a single mother, and he also has a little sister who he tries to look after. His mom played by Kim Basinger is the type of mom who lives on welfare and doesn’t work. Her way of getting money and men is going to Bingo all the time. She is hooked up with a man that is the same age as her son rabbit. They live in a run down trailer park, and rabbit is ashamed to be living at home. He wants to make it big in the rap industry, but he has a big problem. You see rabbit gets all scared when it comes to being on stage in front of people. He ends up blowing his chance to make it big. Or should I say make it big in the Club world of free style rapping.
Rabbit and his friends Cheddar Bob played by Evan Jones, and Future played by Mekhi Phifer hook up together and try to get rabbit on the right track. Meanwhile rabbit is working hard to make extra money to get out of that town, this is when he ends up with a good looking hot chick named Alex played by Brittany Murphy . He believes that she is the best thing that can happen to him, and when he finds out something about her all heck breaks out.
One day rabbit comes home and finds out that they are being evicted, his mom doesn’t want her boyfriend to find out because he might leave her. Well it ends up that he does find out, but I’m not going to say what happens then. Rabbit just wants to make life better for the family and him self, but he doesn’t know if he can do it or really make in the big time’s. a lot of trouble ends up blowing his way through out the movie, but rabbit seems to hop back up and move forward.
Final thoughts
I was surprised that this movie didn’t show Eminem doing drugs or drinking. In fact I don’t think I seen him drink or smoke anything in this movie. If he did I must have missed that part. Instead this was a movie that was totally different then what you would expect Eminem to do. Yes there is a lot of rap going on in the movie and it might be hard for some to understand what they are saying, but if you listen closely you will understand. I thought the rap lyrics were pretty cool, it showed how they lived and what they go through. I was able to relate to this movie in a weird way. I hate to say that, but it is true. Eminem done a fantastic job in his role, and I hope he ends up winning some sort of an award for the movie or the song or even as best actor. The songs through out the movie were just short clips from other bands, and of course a few from Eminem. The Superman video can be viewed in the DVD in the special bonus section. I just think it all came together great.
As for special affects, there really wasn’t any of those because it wasn’t an action movie. The story line was great, but it was a little slow. I would rather of seen more of Eminem singing and making it big. I thought the ending was rather stupid and could have lost a few other scenes so they could of added more in the ending. Heck you even see Eminem kind of backing up a homosexual in this movie. That was amazing to me. I guess you have to know about Eminem to understand the movie in some ways.
The DVD is awesome cause you get to see some actual music videos of him, and the bonus pack that comes with it is cool to. I would suggest you check this out, and who knows maybe you might change your minds about the real slim shady? I doubt it, but heck its worth a try ah? Of course the movie is rated “R” so don’t allow young kids to see it. Unless you allow them to listen to his records then I guess you would allow them to watch the movie too right? So don’t take my advice go rent it tonight! Decide for yourself if you enjoy it or not.
