SPicy rice doubling up as "Hyderabi" biryani, pieces of chicken floating in oil, pulav aka Chinese fried rice. When you get sick of the staple Bangalore restaurant food, its time to experiment and sample the cuisine of Arabic region of Asia. Before I go further, please note that if you like your food spicy and full of masala, stay away from this place. Ali Baba Cafe is for more delicate and balanced flavor than the harsh touch served in most restaurants.
One chief reason for writing this review is that not only is the food great but I was a little disturbed reading the most recent review posted on MS a few days back. Now everyone has their experiences but mine was 180 degrees in the other direction. It was all GOOD.
They serve Lebanese, Persian and other blends of food found in central asia. The stress is obviously on Kababs & Biryani. There is plenty to choose from both in Chicken & Mutton (dont remember if they serve beef). I would just recommend going all experimental - see what suits you best. The portions are nice, the kababs not too greasy. The biryani is quite a treat. Its very aromatic and subtle. Try to avoid too much of the roti-curry funda as it can get too Indian.
The place can do with a touch up on the ambiance. They have done a bad job on the Persian cafe touch. It gives a feel of a run down place but dont go by the looks. The food makes this a repeat place.
Its located in Frazer Town and little hard to spot as its on the first floor. In a way I am glad that its out of the way for most of the crowd of Bangalore.
