I have an Amex corporate card that was given to me by my company Cisco. We are supposed to pay for all our business related expenses using our corporate card, wherever possible.
I have used it on my business trips to the UK and Canada. It is just like a regular credit card. Nothing special about it except the high credit limit. In fact, the conversion rate applied by Amex to convert foreign transactions into Indian currency is higher than that applied by other regular cards. I found this while comparing food expenses charged on Amex with other personal purchases made on my personal cards on the same day.
Also, their call center here in Delhi, India is overloaded. I had to wait in the "queue" for about 10 minutes before I could speak to an executive. This too, at about 11 pm at night! Luckily its a toll-free number so it didnt cost me.
Recently, the NEFT transfer facility to Amex for repayment of card dues was also not working, due to an issue with Amexs IFSC code. As a result, I had to pay using BillPay facility provided by ICICI. That took a week to reflect in my card statement. Dont know if that was a problem at ICICIs end or Amexs end.
Reading all the reviews here, I almost feel scared to take an Amex card for personal uses. The current one is an official credit card that will be deactivated if I leave the company. Dont think I would take Amex for personal uses. Nothing special about it at all.
