I came to read it by way of hearing so much about it. Once I got the book from the library, I couldnt put it down.
Its a story that is so honest, its hilarious and heartwrenching at the same time.
Through the whole of it, I wanted to go out there and grab somebody. I wanted to barge into some sleazy tavern and take some guy (or woman) who was drinking the rent and shake them, then frog march them home to their family.
It was a book that made me want to go out and ravage the world; I wanted to start a revolution.
The times that hurt were the times when the children died; even thought you know from the very outset that the children will die, it comes as such a shock when it happens. I just wanted to scream at somebody.
Yes, I saw the movie and thought it was done quite well. What really impressed me about the movie, was everybody in it looked just like I thought they would.
Ill tell you another way I choose a book to read; if somebody tells me its just awful, then I want to read it. I want to find out why that reader found it just awful. So, when somebody from my book club announced that Tis a Memoir was a terrible sequel to Angelas Ashes, I had to read it. Well, I enjoyed that too.
Both books gave me a really good understanding of Ireland and its people.
I loved the irish dialogue in the books - I couldnt stop talking like that for days - not atall, atall ...
