The Big DOOM !!

Oops!! So you think I spelled “DOME” wrong in the title…. Ok, Read on to find out

IMAX – Image in MAXimized size, wrong again, of course I know this is not the actual full form of IMAX, it just don’t have any so called full form so I though I would give it one. :o) That’s my yet another talent LoLzz.

Basic Information

Yes!! We in mumbai are proud to have our countries first and the worlds largest IMAX dome screen theater, measuring 13, 700 square feet, at the Bhakti Park at Wadala (Phew!! Quite out of place). This place is a multiplex also comprising of four cinema screens, which runs normal big screen Bollywood and Hollywood films. Combined it has the sitting capacity of 1, 375.

Did you know?

Sorry couldn’t paste that Bulb image over here. LoL!! I hope you got the joke. An average IMAX screen is 4317 times bigger than your desktop computer screen.

My Personal experience

Having heard of this from too many people, my dear Hubby [then, friend Ok boyfriend ;o)] thought of impressing me and decided to take me for a movie at IMAX, Wow I was so happy :o). We took a bus from andheri east, till chembur priyadarshan colony (I am not sure about the colony name) Phew!! It took us 1.30 hours to reach there but finally we were there, from here Imax has arranged deluxe mini bus till the theater, which is a 10 minutes ride. Wow I was impressed that hubby dear has taken pains to find out all the details on how to reach this doom oops!! Dome theater. Finally we were there……

The Place around

Wow!! Was the first word that we both said together. A huge dome shaped that too tilted at an obtuse angle, I hope you know the basic geometry LoL!! Huge parking space, not that we had gone by car but just for your info Grrr. Coming to the gate we checked which all movies were playing, all confused we called our friends to enquire which movie to go for. They said they had seen Grand Canyon & Africas elephant kingdom and both were boring so we opted for the “Blue Planet”. Phew!! The tickets cost were 175 Rs each, (after a discount of 25 rs each for our orange phone) which was too much we both thought, but Finally we were inside …..

The Ambience

It was still around 15-20 minutes for the movie to start, we just strolled around, believe me we were both more and more impressed, the ambience was just too good, too clean, too slippery, beautifully decorated with fountain. After checking the ambience hubby dear asked me to order something while he went to the loo, he came out so impressed that I too went to just check it ( of course I went to the ladies loo). Wow!! It was soo spacious, clean and perfumed. By then it was time to go inside the dome….

There at the entrance we were asked to throw away our bisleri bottle, hey but we just spent 15 rs on it. But no rule is rule, to keep the theater spic and span you are not allowed to take eatables inside. :O( Ok we don’t have a choice, rs 15 gone down in the dust bin. Finally we were inside…..

Inside the DOME

WoW!! It was amazing, cool (of course because of the AC), neat, comfortable seats with too much leg space and the most amazing the full white HUGE dome shaped screen. It was fantastic. Finally we settled in the center of the hall…..

A beautiful female voice clear and loud asked everyone to keep their “MouthShut” in a polite manner ;o) and after the brief introduction about the theater, began A.R.Rehemans Vande Mataram song. It was just too good, out of the world, mind blowing, magnified to fit the huge dome shaped screen in front, to the right, to the left, up and even behind us, It looked so real and close as if we can just touch any character on the screen. Everything was so clear (except for some black patches on the white screen) we could even make out a drop of water clearly. After which started our movie Oops we almost forgot we had come for the movie….

The Movie

“The Blue Planet” was the movie about our planet earth as seen from the space. How did earth begin, how it is changing, and how are we affecting it. Just everything about our one and only planet earth. Ok I m just creating a hype, actually I got damn bored, and I think I was not the only one, as an old couple besides us were fast asleep. It seemed like we were watching a national geographic channel in a huge screen…. The movie seemed so long, but finally it was over and to our surprise it was hardly 45 minutes long. After which there was trailor of the African elephants, and it so seemed that if the elephant, which was sooo huge, much above my head but yet so close, that I told hubby dear “If this elephant fall on me I would be crushed like an ant.” :o) finally we were out…..

All in all an excellent unique experience. Of course it’s a must watch one time!! But I feel paying 200 rs per person for watching a 45 mins movie, Plus 50 rs snacks, plus that 15 rs of bisleri wasted, was just too much for the “BIG DOOM” ;o) got it!!!

Advice for those who want to follow

! find out what movie is at what time and which is good ( if you are lucky to be able to find that )

! Leave home much before time.

reach there half an hour before time to enjoy the ambience.

! eat snacks before entering the ’’doom’’

! try not to sleep while watching the movie after all you paid 200 rs for this na? ;o)

! enjoy being in a clean place.

P.S: Dear Friends I am going on a 2-week trip to south tomorrow, our second honeymoon ;o) so see you all in the New Year. Wishing you all A Very happy New Year. Se ya, Miss me, I mean my reviews ok :o) I will miss “MouthShut” and you all too…..

Take care. Keep smiling

Don’t worry, be happy!!
