I am not a Ranbir Kapoors fan as I feel he copies too much of his gran uncle Shammi Kapoor and I am a big fan of the older Kapoor rather than Ranbir...so my review may seem a bit biased..but I did like some of his films earlier and this one is definitely not in the ranks...even if I stop being biased for this one...it still is one of his worst movies ever....the same old formulaic film of the 80s....which could work, had the formula for comedy here, the formula to take on the epic scenes, characters and films, put to a good use....taher not used at all. When I used to see the films of the 90s there would be a point in the film where in the cast would deliberately break into a song, just to fulfill the quota of 5-6 minimum, songs.
This is no different, in fact goes one step ahead. Also the direction by abhinav kashyap, lacks the strong connection within the characters as compared to what Dabangg had(maybe the Salman Khan factor is just not Ranbirs cup of tea...although Barfi too wouldnt be less than a nightmare for the Khan)...Satyajit Ray had one told, that making a mainstream masal movie is much more difficult than making an offbeat film and that sippy had done a much better work than he ever could on it(in reference to his views on sholay)...
Its time that so called good directors(anurag kashyap, anurag basu, zoya akhtar, abhishek kapoor, neeraj pandey, and so on) of today be first asked to make one such film and then comment on them....Also sorry to say that its safe that our films are not female centric(for better)...because good actresses inflow, stopped with aishwarya rai??
Yes one may argue Vidya Balan, but tell me one film of hers where she has acted brilliantly without shedding clothes??(Probably hwat made Sridevi and Juhi Chawla a slight better than Madhuri??)...
