Does Bride Gets What She Wants /

Barbara Carland wrote The Bored Bridegroom in 1974. It was published my Bantam Books. I own the paperback that I found in a used book store and payed 50 cents for it. The IBSN is 0330239511.

My Review

Even at 18 Lucretia Hedley was secretly in love with the Marquis of Merlyn, (Alexis) who is in England at the time when the book begins. He is handsome, rich and sophisticated and everyone lady wants him to fall in love with her.

He doesn’t care for young girls because they bored him. He likes to go out and about with Lady Hester and her brother.

Alexis wants to buy some property in England that Mr. Hedley owns. Part of the deal is he has to marry Lucretia.

He was force to marry Miss Hedley and he wondered what he would have in comment with his bride.

When Lucretia goes back to France with him she is determined to make her husband fall in love with her.

She is also impulsive and she tricks her husband into going on a dangerous mission where Bonaparte’s send his soldiers to find them.

What does Lady Hester and her brother do? What did Lucretia force her husband to do? Why would Alexis risk making Bonaprarte angry? You’ll have to read the book to find out!

My Thoughts

I love historical books and thrillers this is a combination of both.

I learned a lot about the history of England and France during the time that Bonaparte ruled France. She develops her characters very well and they are believable.

Trivia

Barbara Carland was Princess Diana’s step-mother. She loved to dish the dirt on the Royal family. In her books many of the people were real, but had different names and the events took place in a different era. If you know a lot about the Royal family it would be easy to know who she was writing about.

My Conclusion

Barbara Cartland has written over 700 hundred books and you can’t go wrong reading any of the.

Thanks for reading my review.
