Well I am back in Bombay after last years dissapoiting trip. It was 930pm IST and some of my friends were caving for Chinese food while I Test Drove my friends new Mitsubishi Lancer (expect a review soon). Friends planned on going to The Ambassador BUT - the food there sucked last year so I ruled that one out. The problem at this time on a Sunday night is that it is hard to find a parking spot. I did not know that Chopsticks offered Valet Parking so I digged for one - took me about 20 minutes and 3 rounds of Oberoi (close to Chopsticks) to find a place to park.
We entered Chopsticks and asked for a table on the first level as the ground level looked pretty crowded. The waiter politely said that there was a 10 mins wait and that he would let me now as soon as it was available. I was sitting on my table within the next 7 minutes.
I ordered Hot n’ Sour Soup 2 to 1 to start with. There were three of us in all and only two of us were hungry. The third friend just sat there and watched us eat. Hot n’ sour soup was not extrordinary at all. It tasted the same, a little better than Ambassadors - but anyways I did finish it as I was going to pay for it. We ordered Veg Fried Rice for the maincourse with some chicken curry. None of those were impressive. But I had no complains as the service was faster than some of the places I had eaten before.
No complains about the sweet lime soda. It was served ICE COLD as compared to the place where I had lunch that day (Dosa Diner.. ugghh I ordered it twice but they seemed to misunderstand the meaning of COLD).
After we were done eating, as usual we played the game.. the ’price is right’ .. I quoted a price of rs 575 while my other friends quoted 675 and 625.
I was surprised to see the check say Rs. 985. I smiled and said to myself that the food wasnt worth it after all.
Bottomline: The food is not EXTRAORDINARY - its just standard chinese. The price is pretty HIGH for the food they serve. Pros are the faster service they offer. I would not visit this place to eat if I was with friends unless it was a special ocassion. If I was going to be charged rs 985 I would expect an exquisite decor with some awesome music playing in the background, an a/c that could get rid of my sweat, and more comfortable seating arrangements.
