Let me just start the review by saying neutron bomb, what was ramgopal thinking, couldn’t he just call it just a regular bomb, sanjubaba goes that’s the same bomb they dropped in japan a long time ago where the whole country was shattered in pieces, that part of the movie didn’t make sense. Otherwise Daud is worth watching for the performances of all charatcers.
The movie is directed by Ramgopal Varma, He has done a comedy apart from his gangster movies. The movie staRs sanjubaba, urmila, paresh rawal, manoj vajpaaye.
The movie is about Pinky (Paresh rawal) who is a terrorist, has a big gang which includes apna bhiku matre ( manoj vajpaaye) this movie came out before satya. Pinky’s plan is to destroy india with a neutron bomb which is under the custody of the police. Pinky gives the job to his friend name Khurana, who hires a small time crook nandu (sanjubaba) to steal the neutron bomb, but nandu is told that the box consists of gold biscuits worth two crores, nandu agrees and wants 25 lakhs to steal the box.
Nandu steals the box and hides it in a safe place and now the police is after him, he meets bhavani (urmila) In a hotel, where bhavani finds out nandu is a criminal she helps him to get away from the police. They both run away together, where bhavani tells him she is also interested in the money.
As nandu and bhavani ride off their tyrst into a jungle the police led by inspector nair (ashish vihdarthi) blunders after them. They reach a village and they get a place to stay at a guy name chakko’s house, whose the king of the village and falls in love with bhavani at first sight.
The police also locate them at the village, where they both run away and later on in the movie bhavani and nandu finds out that the box doesn’t contain gold it has a neutron bomb in it, the box is so small I wonder how you can fit a neutron bomb in it.
I saw this movie in india in 1997, a lot of people came to say, because it was sanjay dutt first movie in like 2 years, the theatre was housefull when I went and when sanju appeared in the screen people were whistling and saying in punjabi a geya baba a geya.
I thought the movie was excellent in my opinion, it had everything action, fighting, comedy and of course urmila. The fighting looked so real in the movie how sanju fights. The music by a.r rahman is not his usual, but goes along with the movie, the song yeh daud hai daud hai, should have been left out while the police were chasing them. My favorite from the movie was shabba shabba haaye rabba and oh bhavre dekho hum deewno ko.
Performances wise, Sanjay dutt is great in his comedy, he had proved in this movie he’s great as a comedian also, and people say he started his comedy from munna bhai how could that be. He looked out of shape in the movie, probably because of those roti and dal they gave him in jail hahaahah. Urmila as bhavani is great as well she is my favorite actress, so I have to say she was good. She was also good in the comedy sequences. Paresh rawal as always does his comedy even in a villain role is great. Everyone else play their part nicely.
