Full of Life but Could Have Been Better!

The music of Dear Zindagi is out and it does sound refreshing. Refraining from the overused melodies, the composers of the movie have done a great job in offering a great music album to its listeners.

The album opens with Love You Zindagi sung by Jasleen Royal. The background vocals by Amit Trivedi makes this song a memorable track. The lyrics penned by Kausar Munir are fresh and even the melody is quite fresh. "Tu Hi Hai" by Arijit Singh is one of the major tracks of the movie, however, it fails to make an impression. The use of Guitar and Mandolin in the song is catchy, however, the singing sounds familiar and the entire song has a background feel to it.

Taarefon Se is probably the best track of the movie. The use of trumpet in this song is one of the highlights of the song with soft guitar pieces adding to the charm. Arijit’s voice blends well with the saxophone and the entire song focuses on a guy’s love for his dream girl. Let’s Break Up in the voice of Vishal Dadlani is a "chor-bazaari" kind of break-up song. Vishal’s voice is the only highlight of the song. The use of bass guitar, keyboards and drums is all familiar and the song is a hybrid between a disco number and a peppy break-up song. "Just Go To Hell Dil" by Sunidhi Chauhan is another song in the movie on the theme of break-up. Sunidhi’s voice is perfect for the song, however, the lyrics do not really touch your heart. The use of violin in the song is perfect, however, the entire composition is nothing to rave about.

The USP of this album is the revised version of the Illayraja classic " Ae Zindagi Gale Laga Le". Arijit Singh has sung the song soulfully and Amit Trivedi has used piano, electric guitars and drums beautifully to give this song a peppy touch, while at the same time retaining the soul of the song. However, the Alia Bhatt version of this song is horrible. Heavily auto-tuned and in the lifeless voice of Alia Bhatt, this is easily the worst song of the album.

Overall, the album is a perfect fit for heartbroken lovers. However, I expected more from Amit Trivedi. For me, it is a 2.5 out of 5 stars kinda album.
