The fifth installment in the widely renowned Diary of a wimpy kid franchise is definitely a very entertaining oneI read it ( for the first time) when I was 13. The major topic this time around is PUBERTY. I know we all hate it and so does Greg. Here is what I think abt this bookPLOT OVERVIEW- I found the plot very interesting. Greg wants to behave like a kid but everyone just tells him that he must grow up now which he finds very boring because all he wants to do is play twisted wizard all day long. Also the subplot is of his relative getting married for like the third or fourth time. At the wedding some crazy things happen which contribute for a great portion of the humor in this book. Apart from this almost all the jokes in the book actually work! Like I was laughing crazy while reading! Another imp thing is The Talk. Read the book to enjoy that incident.CHARACTERS- I felt that in this book, Rowley is barely in the present. Greg has a habit of writing down things which took place in the past but when he wrote abt the present, I felt that there was definitely very less Rowley. Which is strange bcoz even he was going thru puberty. Very less incidences revolve around him ( but all of them were quiet entertaining) . But some might argue that Greg is a very self centred person so he might have just kept writing abt himself, which I think is fine, so NOT A BIG DEAL. Apart from this Gregs uncle was very funny but the rest was almost the same. Finally After analyzing the book under these two categories, I think that DOAWK The Ugly Truth manages to tell the UGLY TRUTH to the haters that this franchise is simply awesome.
Although nothing imp happens in the plot which may affectvthe Heffleys but its still enjoyable to kill some time and imstead have a great time!
Me, being a die hard fan of this franchise found it very entertaining. But I do expect something more, bcoz that little essence is still missing. And that is involvement of every character which is hard for a writer but I expectbmore from Jeff!
