’’Super Hit films of 1960s’’
There had been many hit Hindi Films during 1960 to 1970 than any other period. It was Golden era of Hindi films(so called bollywood today). Most of the films released those days were superhit;with best of direction;music;and acting. So it is difficult to choose among best.
There were best Directors(Bimal Roy;V.Shantaram;Gurudutt;Raj Kapoor;Dilipkumar;A.R.Kardar;Dev Anand;B.R.Chopra;Raj Khosla;Khwaja Ahmed Abbas;& many others;newcomers like Barjatyas etc.)
I would like to recommend following movies as best in every respect(Cast;Music;Direction)
1)Sangam--(Rajkapoor;Vajyantimala;Rajendrakumar)Greatest hit from Rajkapoor;First Hindi film Shot on foreign location with maximum number of songs;almost 15 songs were recorded but only 10 were picturised!Besides acting Raj Kapoor had directed this film;also contributed to the music of S.J.(Shankar-Jaikishen
2)Guide---(Devanand;Wahida Rehaman;Kishore Sahoo)Devanand’s best movie.Here Dev Anand also directed this movie.R.D.Burman’s music with all hit songs;sung by Rafi;Lata’’and Kishore.R.D.Burman himself sang ’’MUSAFIR JAYENGA KAHAN’’.This film was released in Maratha Mandir.When it comleted 100 days in this theatre ;there were first shower of rains (in Bombay)in the month of July 1966.(generaly it rains in or before June)The story of this movie looks same;where Dev Sahab fasts to death till it rains!
3)Waqt--(B.R.Chopra’s Multi-star;first time in Hindi Film.) Mr.BR Chopra always has very big themes in his all movies.This film teaches importance of ’’WAQT’’. (Rajkumar;Sunil dutt;Shashikapoor;Sadhna;Sharmila;Sashikala;& Great Balraj Sahani) Music by Ravi was at its best.Song ’’Waqtse ye din aur Raat’’ was very touchy (Dilko chhunewala).
4)Dosti--Rajshree production’s (Barjatya)& Laxmikant-Pyarelal’s & Sanjay Khan’s one of few firsts.It had run 50 weeks( Golden jubilee);although it was having all new comers.All songs(except one) are sung by Rafi Sahab;and LP were in full form!
5)Tisree Manzil --Naseer Husain’s biggest suspense movie.was also Golden Jubilee.Nasser Huasain’s this movie was directed by GOLDIE!(Dev sahab’s brother--Mr.Vijay Anand.)Best songs by Rafi;Best Music by RD Burman(son of Great SD).Best dances by Helen.No dancer in today’s Bollywood can give such performance;it was only HELEN! Now she is Helen Salim Khan(Writer of Sholay) .In this movie Premnath (once upon a time a hero) acted after a period of 10 years;as a villain!Songs are sung by Ashaji;Rafi sahab;and only one is sung by Lata (O mere Sona...)
I am very sorry I cannot include ’’Mughlal-e-Aazam’’ and Gunga Jamuna’’(I like both);Taaj-Mahel;Pakeeza.because they were released in late 1959 or I donot know their releases in Bombay.!
