GUIDE.........................which released way back in ’’1965’’, is one of the best film to have come out in ’’INDIAN CINEMA’’ and it was one of the few hindi film, which did complete justice to................a novel from one of India’s best known writers in the English language ’’R.K.NARAYAN’’.The film ’’GUIDE’’ also received several awards at different film circuits..............its one of the most brilliant film I have seen and what constributes in making Guide a classic..................STORY, ACTING, DIRECTION, DIALOUGES and the most amazing music by the venerable ’’SACHIN DEV BURMAN’’................the songs of this film were kind of magical and were responsible for taking the film to such a height, lyrics by SHAILENDRA were great too.SDB is one of my all time favourite musician and GUIDE one of my all time favourite music album....................hence thought of reviewing it.
The album contains eight tracks..............and i’ll review them in order of my preferance.
WAHAN KAUN HAI TERA.....................is my favourite song from the album.Its just sooooooooooo deep and beauiful composition from SDB, it brings almost a tear in my eye when I listen to it................also this song shows how much feeling, depth was there in the songs of yesteryear, that is why they still rule our hearts.The lyrics are kind of philosphical.............and the singing is by the composer himself, SDB................a true gem.
TERE MERE SAPNE................one of the most romantic song I have ever heard.So beautifully composed and written and the singing by MOHD RAFI..............well what do I say for this man, he was ’’GOD OF SINGING’’.His voice is unparralal...........and who could do a better justice to a song like TERE MERE SAPNE, than him.
DIN DHAL JAYA..................what a song, what poetry, what melody and what singing again by MOHD RAFI.The amount of sadness and pathos that he brought to this song with his singing was just brilliant...........the composition was also so beautiful, minimal use of instrumentation................but magical effect.
PIYA TOSE NAINA LAGE.....................a classical song, sung by’’LATA MANGESHKAR’’....................i just love the way this song begins, with the alaap, and then contnues ’’Aaye holi aaye’’.......... , also LM’s voice was so sweet and melodious that even the high notes in the song never became shreaky or loud..................perefect rendition.
AAJ PHIR JEENE KI TAMANNA HAI..................its unbeleivable, each song in this album is just sooo........good, that you just don’t know which one to put in your favourite...................AAJ PHIR JEENE KI, is another gem and an eternal favourite of the people.’’Kaaton se kheech ke woh aachal’’...............who could forget those lines and how it was picturised on Waheeda Rahman?Its such a feel good, positive song...................something very nice about the song, kind of song you instantly fall in love with.
GAATA RAHE MERA DIL................it has to be one of the most liked and popular song ever.This song is like synonamous with romance, the lyrics, singing by KISHOR KUMAR and LATA MANGESHKAR, the composition was just perfect...............i love the way the saxophone is used in the song, towards the end, it was typical of SDB’s music...............makes the song sound very romantic.
KYA SE KYA HO GAYA...................a song about heartbreak, brilliantly rendered by MOHD RAFI................lyrics were phenomenal, ’’chalo suhana bharm to toota, jaana ki husn kya hai, kehti hai jisko pyar duniya kya cheez kya bala hai’, the chorus was also well used in the song.
SAIYAN BEIMAAN.....................this song is used just before the song Kya se kya in the film, its also about the feelings and hearbreak of the woman who loves the man but feels that he is cheating on her................and thats what the song conveys so beautifully.LATA MANGESHKAR again does a great job...............i don’t think anybody could sing the classical based songs as good as she did.
So this completes the list of songs........................GUIDE is an album which should be in every music lovers collection, its a must have even if you don’t like or enjoy music ...................just to know with how much effort and perfection the musicians of yesteryears composed the songs, with how much feelings the singers sang them and how much meaning the lyrics had so as too touch your heart.......................really nothing like OLD FILM MUSIC, and the music of GUIDE is one proof of it.....................BRILLIANT.
