Heyy Babyy-Just the babyy

Not impressed with the reviews and the promotions, I was reluctant to watch this film.  However, since there aren’t any other decent movies out I went out to see this movie.

The movie had a decent start.  It is about three guys who have nothing else in life other than women.  The setting is in Australia.  Akshay is a club manager, Ritesh is a Eddy Teddy, and Fardeen a gambler who always bets on cricket games.  One day someone leaves a "babyy" at their door step and they all start pointing at each other as the father of the baby.  This is where the funniest line in the whole movie comes, "naak ki phoonsi" or Napunsak or Impotent.  Anyway, then the baby becomes a problem for all of them as they all lose their jobs.  So they decide to abandon the baby at the church doorstep.  It starts raining and the baby almost dies until saved by all three men.  Then their love blossoms for the baby until her momma comes back to take the kid. This is where the story gets kinda pushy.  All the fun is totally squeezed out of the movie as all three men try to get the baby back from the momma.

Sajid khan has been reported many times saying that this movie a family entertainer.  I don’t know what is Sajid Khan’s definition of a family movie.  Is it calling a little baby "sali" or is it having half naked women running around or is it jokes about codoms or is it having a whole theme about having unprotected sex with multiple partners?

I felt that the comedy  was missing something.  I knew the material was funny but I wasn’t laughing.  For example, the explanation about why men are not dogs could have been funnier. Also the part where Akshay goes in search of babyfood could have been executed more comically.  Iron joke along with other silly jokes wasn’t working for me.  I know Sajid Khan can do better.

Whats up with the title song being so slow.  It is even shot in slow motion with mutliple actresses.  They are in a club and having so much fun, why does it seem like they are in a dream sequence. I liked the other song "mast kalandar" much better.  Shahrukh’s entry and included  "Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayege" skit was good.  Rest of the songs are strictly okay.

The baby is excellent but I could easily see that the baby shots weren’t taken at the spot with rest of the casts.  I could see in the inconsistency in the film.  This is not the baby’s fault but the person who is making it.  They needed to do better editing to not show baby if she is not in the same expressions as in the mug shots.

Akshay Kumar is excellent comedy actor but needs to work on the emotional part.  The scene where he is crying for his daughter was not convincing. Fardeen Khan is improving, a bit late in his career but atleast he is trying.  He had few funnier scenes in the second half of the movie. His performance is much better than in "Pyaare Mohan".

Ritesh Desmukh felt like a kid in front of these two men.  He almost felt like a no-one because his role wasn’t substantial.  He does make you smile once in a while but in front of Akshay, you need to work a little harder.Vidya Balan doesn’t look comfortable or I am just not used to seeing her in this kind of role.

Final Verdict: This is nothing extra ordinary but  Sajid did well for his debut film.
