Movie Review : Hichki
I am sure at some point during our school lives we all have come across at least one teacher whom we still remember and admire. Hichki is a tribute to that person(s) who forged a bond which was beyond elementary education, made us aware and proud of whatever little talent we had, helped us fight our inner demons, inspired us to aspire for the unachievable and eventually make it possible and in the end shaped us as better human beings.
It is a heart-warming story of such pious & beautiful relationship between underprivileged students and their Tourette Syndrome affected teacher. The movie shows that neither of these negative adjectives deters a spirited lady, who cares a damn about her speech disorder, to take upon daunting task of changing the perception of poor children who feel they are unwanted and misfit in a prestigious convent school meant for select coterie. With her unconventional and out-of-box thinking she makes these bright youngsters hone their skills, dust off the negativity from their hearts and channelise their energy in right direction to help them earn dignity, self-respect and rightful position in society.
Rani Mukerji is perfect example of an actor playing her age and strength. Prettiness of her soul is reflected in every frame. After Mardaani she has proved yet again that she has the capability to drive entire film all by herself. To aide her are witty one-liners, believable sequences without any romantic melodrama, rustic beauty of centenary old school which still uses blackboards and chalks, authentic school uniform which doesn’t look like party-dress, wooden bench and chairs reminiscent of the old world charm and broad corridors sans fancy light or air-conditioning.
All these are enough to make one feel nostalgic and go down the memory lane of best times we had in school. Hello, that also reminds how outdated and old model we are in today’s gizmo driven childhood of school-going kids! So head towards your nearest cinema hall to relive your glory days. This hichki is infectious!!
