Hulchul is a story of 2 warring families.
Actually, it’s the battle over a woman that resulted in the entire feud between the two families.
Angaarchand [Amrish Puri] has 4 sons [Jackie Shroff, Paresh Rawal, Arbaaz Khan and Akshaye Khanna]. They have taken a vow to stay away from women owing to a past family tragedy. Even just a mention of women is restricted..
The other family with Lakshmidevi [Lakshmi] is waiting for an opportunity to seek revenge on Angaarchand and his family. It so happens that Angaarchand’s youngest son, Jai [Akshaye Khanna], and Lakshmidevi’s grand-daughter, Anjali [Kareena Kapoor], land up in the same college. And your guess ?.. The the game starts.
Jai and Anjali starts with pretending to fall in love with each other to seek revenge for their respective families. And lo the (CIRCUIT of Munna Bhai )[Arshad Warsi] Lucky the troublemaker Jai’s best friend joins the game.
Ye to hona hi tha ?. The 2 (Jai and Anjali) becomes serious in love and the two actually begin to develop true feelings for each other... all predictable but in a hilarious sitaition.
Phir ? Wahee ?.. It now becomes a clash of two egos and the the story starts moving in an altogether new direction (Ha the film stagnates at this point). Some of the portions of the film specially fight and some dialogues after that is worth going out for the pop-corn.
The performances that dominate the movie are those of Akshaye Khanna, Arshad Warsi, Paresh Rawal and Amrish Puri.
The first half of the movie is simply superb and thoroughly enjoyable. After the post-interval the movie changes tracks. So laugh your quota in first half ?.. it would be however unjustified to recommend that laugh sequences ends with first half, some isolated sequences throws you back in laughter but ??
Yes music is good. Dekho Jara Dekho and Rafta Rafta are fine. 100 % marks to the Cinematography.
Star performances:
Akshaye Khanna is brilliant with his notorious smile and so is the performance of Arshad Warsi (kya baap kay mast acting karela hai!)
Bebo / Kareena Kapoor look stunning and have put up a splendid performance.
When it comes to comedy Paresh Rawal performance is sterling..
Role of Amrish Puri and Lakshmi are simply superb. Faraha has also impressed but ?.
The film supporting cast Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty, Arbaaz Khan have given excellent performance. Asrani & Shakti Kapoor are at their usual best.
The film is a light entertainer family drama.
Overall, a good enjoyable movie.
