Its strange that when a human being does a deed that is uncouth or evil in the eyes of the public, all the good things that he or she has ever done is forgotten. Certain pop icons seem to be the ones who get hit by this all the time...
Lets set that thought aside and get on with the album review.
--------ooO-Ooo----------------ooO-Ooo----------------ooO-Ooo--------
Before I begin, Id like to jot down a few facts.
= George Michael released 5 studio albums and 1 compilation album (the one I am writing my review on).
= George Michaels FAITH won him the Grammy for Best Album of the Year and also spawned several hits including FAITH, FATHER FIGURE, ONE MORE TRY, MONKEY. HARD DAY, HAND TO MOUTH and KISSING A FOOL.
= Out of the six albums, five of them made it to number 1 on the UK charts and the one that didnt (Songs from the last century) made it to number 2.
Ladies and Gentlemen: The Best of George Michael
===========================================
George Michaels compilation album contains songs that have been handpicked and segregated into a twin CD pack with Ballads on one and Foot-stompers on the other. As far as compilation albums go, this one is great value as it features nearly 30 songs and includes a few originals such as As (a duet with Mary J Blige), Outside and Fantasy. The album also features two of his solo works from his WHAM days - the legendary Careless Whispers and that beautiful ballad - Different Corner.
For The Heart
===========================================
The first disc, titled For The Heart is a collection of ballads that are pretty soothing and as such, ideal for those late evenings with spirit, soul mate or solitude.
Whats memorable on this disc is the velvety vocals and soulful rendition that is the signature of George Michael.
The ballads include the evergreen tale of betrayal - Careless Whispers, the duet with Elton John Dont Let The Sun Go Down On Me, the icy cool Cowboys and Angels, Praying for Time, Different Corner, One More Try and Heal The Pain.
My pick on this disc is my favourite GM ballad - Father Figure - the song that touches that special nerve within.
Overall - reserve this disc for special moments... like those slow dances....
For The Feet
===========================================
Ah, now this is more like it. If Disc One made your pulse slow down a bit... this one has tracks to boost it up...
Disc 2 is packed with funky sounds and tongue in cheek https://lyrics. It kicks off with a new song called Outside that had a rather raunchy video to back it. The song sets the pace for the rest of the songs that include As, I knew you were waiting - a duet with the legendary Aretha Franklin, a cover of Freddy Mercury classics Killer / Papa was a rolling stone and the song he sand with Queen for the Freddie Mercury tribute concert - Somebody To Love.
My pick - FREEDOM 90 - its simply an awesome song that will make you want to slip into a coat and dance your heart out...
Overall
===========================================
This compilation album features some of the best works of a true genius. You cant go wrong with it. If I had a choice I would have wanted some more of his songs on this one... but its darned hard... because it would mean Id have to add another CD or two to the two CD compilation.
Also, this isnt teeny bopper pop. Its the work of a musician who matured and evolved into a greater force than he ever was during the era of bubble gum and cotton candy.
Buy it and be a... COOL CAT COOL COOOOOL CAT... (snaps fingers)
