ELITe LIT!!!!!

I belong to Laxminarayan Institute of Technology and I am very proud of being a part of it. The four years of stay in LIT has brought revolutionary changes in me. It was always dream of my father do get an admission into this prestigious institution......and when I got admission, it was like dream come true, for both of us!!! The institute recently celebrated it’s Diamond Jubilee and have produced many great engineers and technologists. The institute has a great past and uptill now it has survived 60 long years, by it’s reputation.......But alas things change, and for LIT things have changed real fast. Here are some of the facts

which need immediate attention:

1)THE FACULTY: LIT is known, and has always being know for it’s excellent teaching faculty. But there has not been a single professor appointed to this institute for the last 15 years now. The very professors who have served LIT are on the verge of retirement. Some of them have stayed even after retirement because of their love for LIT. But the

fact is, if new professors are not appointed very soon, LIT might just be history.

2)INTERACTION WITH THE INDUSTRY: The training and placement this year at LIT has been the most pathetic in the institution’s history. Ok, the recent recession has a lot to do with it, but there is very less or no interaction with the industry. Students from LIT have carried the name

of LIT far and wide. It’s largely due to it’s reputation that giants like BPCL and HLRC still visit the campus. But the overall scenario has to be improved. There has to be a seperate building for conducting the campus interviews.

3)THE INFRASTRUCTURE: The laboratories of the instituion lack the latest equipments, barring a few exceptions. The management must consider of replacing the obsolete equipments.

SOME FACTS:

DIAMOND JUBLIEE:1) The institution recently celebrated the 60 years of it’s glorious existence. For the function most of the alumni were present. One of the alumni was a person who passed out from the very first batch of LIT i.e. from the 1945-46 batch.

2)The celebration ’ICCI-2k2’ consisted of paper presentation on ’automation’ in the chemical industry. People from all parts of the country flew in to share their knowledge with the students.

2)LIT provides many oppotunities for the techno-savvy people to present innovative ideas through paper-presentations. The major contests include ’Poly-impetus’ which is conducted by the Polymer department.

3) One of LIT’s ex-student heads an electricity project in Australia, the budget of which is greater than the budget of many states in India.

4)Many professors of LIT have published invaluable papers in the last three decades.

5)Many of the LIT students are excelling abroad doing either their research or MS.

MY OPINION: This treasure of knowledge has lived upto it’s expectations so far, but the harsh reality is that it’s ageing. It needs to be rejuvenated, it needs the support from all those who have benefited from the institute. If all the above mentioned problems are solved effectively, LIT soon will be what it was in the ’good old days’. After all it played a giant role in securing a ’four star’ status to Nagpur university. It’s definitely a CROWN of Nagpur university.
