Even as a kid I was never really fond of cartoons and to watch an animated film in the theatre was completely out of the question. But on the insistence of a couple of my friends who are obsessed (they work as animators) I was dragged down to watch this latest Walt Disney creation.
After putting aside my apprehensions, I realized that an animated film is not very different from a film with human characters. The humour makes you laugh, the emotional content touches you somewhere, the characters sometimes you can identify with. And this film is full of all that masala and more.
The film begins with some planet in galaxy where a scientist is being sentenced for creating a monster who is a tiny little thing but is capable of causing big disasters. While they put the mad scientist in prison, the little creature manages to escape free. And no points for guessing that after stealing a police spaceship he lands straight on an island on Earth.
To bring him back and have him destroyed the scientist is chosen and is accompanied by another who is supposed to have ample knowledge about earth. Mission possible thus begins.
Meanwhile the little creature is rampaged on his first day itself with big huge trucks and is brought to a shelter house for dogs.
On this island lives a little girl, Lilo, who is a terror for her elder sister, Stich. She has no friends and no family but her sister. Realizing the little girl’s plight her sister decides to get her a pet.
In the shelter for dogs, Lilo decides that the only pet she will take home is the little monster and christens him Stitch. Only once she gets him home does she realizes what a destructive freak he is. But she feels sorry for him and decides to reform him. The solution: Elvis Presley music.
The entire film is a madcap adventure after this.
If you have kids or the kid inside you is still a bubbly lively person then this film is a must-watch.
As for me, will I see another animated film? Hmmmm haven’t really decided.
