Your typical Bollywood fare with just a touch of difference - the bottom line message - that - friendship is better than war, to resolve issues with Pakistan.
Although that quotation might not sound like an orgasm of words, thats what the movie essentially tries to convey.
Shah Rukh Khan is your army man Major Ram Prasad whose father (Naseerudin Shah - another Army personnel) is killed by a terrorist Raghavan (Suneil Shetty) - while trying to save the life of the General - Kabir Bedi.
Since your terrorist guy Raghavan threatens to kill the Generals daughter (Sanjana Rao), Shah Rukh Khan is sent in disguise (to protect her) as an older student - trying to complete his graduation.
Essentially, the plot revolves around the motivations of the terrorist brigades motive to prevent a peace move by the Army General (wonder if the Indian Army has such powers?) to release about 50 innocent Pakistanis - who have been jailed for several years in India. These Pakistanis are shown as tribal / village people who unintentionally crossed into India while going about their normal lives, such as fetching water, finding food, etc. Anyways, the scene then shifts to the college where the Generals daughter studies. Major Ram Prasad goes as a student and takes classes that the Generals daughter takes. He follows her and protects her.
To add some love interest, Sushmita Sen comes in as a sexy chemistry teacher - on whom Major Ram Prasad falls head over heels. And to add some drama to the tale, the Major also has a step brother - who happens to study in the same college as the Generals daughter. Talk about marriage of convenience!
Theres plenty of cliched drama - the sobbing and the crying (reunion of Major with his step brother and step mom, etc.) and the patriotism dialogues.
All in all - if you happen to be a Bollywood movie fan - specially an SRK one - then this movie is definitely for you.
If you happen to be one who doesnt like his intelligence to be insulted, I would recommended you stick to As Good As It Gets :)
As for me, the movie was a fair appetite filler.
