Saw this movie last Tuesday. Since I haven’t watched the original version I am not in a position to compare the 2 movies. I will restrict my review to the latest one.
One of the greatest plus of this movie is the star cast. The new comers Archana Kavi and Kaislash have done their roles extremely well. Songs are really good and melodious. After a long time u will feel like ur watching a Malayalam movie. Camera work is really good and have captured the beauty of the village.
Another thing I noted was the performance of Samrutha Sunil. Though her role is limited to 15 mins in the whole movie she has given a stellar performance as the Ratnam wife of Haridas( Kailash). She has really brought to fore the emotions of a wife when she finds that her husband had an affair with their house maid Kunjimalu( Archana Kavi)
The storyline as such is very simple. You are able to predict it within 15 mins the movie starts when the lead characters meet after a gap of 30 yrs. The movie runs in flashback as the thought process of each protoganist namely Kunjimalu and Ratnam.
The negatives of the movie is that the affair between Haridas and Kunjmalu is shown as a quick thing. No sufficient build up is given. Secondly the significance of Neelathamara or blue lotus in the story is not shown significantly. Again his marriage with Ratnam is also abrupt and Kunjimalu’s feelings are not shown appropriately.The character of Sharath Ammini looks like half baked and the movie can go without this character. Same is the case with Haridas’s daughter and her boyfriend. We are not able to comphrehend why they are there in the movie.
Overall it is a feel good movie if you don’t delve much into the specifics
