After using many Nikon Nikon cameras over the years - F5, D1, D2, D3S, D300, D600, D90, D800, D7100 - the Nikon D500 is the best camera I’ve owned, for wildlife photography.
The image quality is great - being a wildlife photographer I need accurate auto-focus, good dynamic range, high frames per second, a large image buffer and good low-light capabilities. The auto-focus is the best I have experienced for birds in flight and moving mammals! The battery life is very good - one battery usually lasts me a whole day while on a photo safari in one of the African parks. I did purchase a battery pack but not the original Nikon as its way too expensive - I got a generic brand from Hong Kong and it has worked great for over a year. The D500 also has a highlight-weighted metering mode - perfect for silhouettes and other back-lit subjects.
