Since the recent past, Ohris has become such a big brand name in Hyderabad for quality food that I am sure 3-star and 5-star properties must be clenching and un-clenching their fingers and planning devious strategies to divert their business to themselves. They have close to 11 different establishments in Hyderabad spanning 3 locations. Fortunately, I was able to visit all their restaurants at least once and several on a regular basis.
Location 1
This location is situated in heart of Hyderabad city near Basheerbagh and their second establishment in Hyderabad.
Metro (Continental & London tube theme restaurant): is a fantastic place situated in the basement serving mainly continental food. I recommend you to try their lasagnas and pastas as it is cooked perfectly Indian" style modifying the usual bland style and add some spice and assorted garnishing to suit the Indian palate. They also serve excellent non-alcoholic drink (mocktails) and alcoholic drinks too. A place to visit for sure. About Rs.600-Rs.800 for 2 people.
Havemore (Snacks & Ice-creams): This restaurant is synonymous with chole bathure served with onions dipped in vinegar sauce and I can bet there will be at least one plate of this item on every table. And secondly, they serve heavenly ice-creams and I would recommend these sundaes to you very very highly (Lewinsky & Midnight Beauty) and I can guarantee you that NO other place in Hyderabad can whip up a better sundae than Havemores at Ohris. About Rs.400 for 2 people.
Ming’s Court: It is the Chinese wing of this location and serves some excellent Chinese grub. The quality and quantity of this restaurant is really amazing and makes you feel that it is really value for money. Their soups, starters (Chilly Sticks, Cheese Balls, and Chicken Drumsticks) are yummmmmy. For main course, I highly recommend their Thai dish (Phuket fish) which is delicious to say the least though the quantity is quite small and you may end up ordering the same dish twice. They serve rice very uniquely in a tall bamboo shoot to keep it warm and regain the flavor of the cooked rice for a longer duration. Noodles too are of excellent quality and I suggest you try something different such as Garlic friend rice and Singapore noodles which I found to be very different and very tasty. A mid-size restaurant costing about Rs.400-Rs.600 for 2 people.
Gufaa (Dungeon Theme): Its a theme restaurant and as the name suggests is like a dungeon and with fire lamps (though artificial, but looks real) hanging from the roofs and the waiters dressed like shikaris including flaunting a gun on the hip and a wide brimmed hat to give you a feeling you entered a Gufaa or a different kingdom. Food here is basically Indian and I can vouch that you get some of the best kebabs in Hyderabad in this restaurant. I tried a few chicken and fish kebabs and they were cooked to perfection, marinated for a long time and cooked delicately over the grill so the fragrance of masalas blended very well with the meat to give you that mouth watering flavor. Highly recommended. They have an assortment of rotis and different Indian curries both veg and non-veg and each is cooked to perfection. I also recommend a special dish here called Talwar kebab (Chicken) that is presented to you on a sword (very stylish and unique). This restaurant is quite expensive and can be ventured out on those special occasions. A meal for two could be about Rs, 1000-Rs, 1200.
Location 2
This location is the oldest and well-known in heart of the secunderabad city.
Outswinger: Its the only pub this restaurant group owns and is also a theme based with cricket as the backdrop. The waiters are dressed as players and entire pub has old pictures of Indian cricketers (old & new) and plays some great music. Since the food comes from Mehfil (next restaurant in this location) it is inevitably delicious. Chilled beer & great veg and non-veg snacks with some thumping music makes up for a great place to spend time with your friends. This pub is mostly the guy to guy type of place where you hardly find any girls hanging out.
Mehfil: Its an Indian cuisine restaurant and has the regular Indian dishes as described above for “GUFAA" and the quality is as amazing as described above. You have a group of people performing nice ghazals during dinner and have a relaxing and soothing ambience that is very tastefully decorated. A meal for two would cost Rs.600-Rs.800
Pickles: It is for the young and hip crowd and they serve continental for ala-carte and they have one of the best buffet dinners in the city of Hyderabad which is available till 4AM in the morning. In fact, it is a 24 hour coffee shop and is open all the time. A buffet meal for 2 would cost Rs.500. Aha! Let me not forget, this is the place to be if you are thrown out of the pub at 12:30AM as they serve alcohol (though disguised) till 3AM in the morning. One of the favorite hang-out places over weekends. I must add the crown predominantly is the call center and young IT professionals who do not mind venturing out late or staying back over a glass of beer till wee hours of morning.
Location 3
This location is the latest and the most grandeur of all three locations situated in the rich locality of Banjara Hills
Havemore: As described above for Havemore, have the same items and same terrific quality of food and in addition due to availability of space have a proper chat counter in the porch of their building. Great snacks and even greater ice-creams.
Far East: As described above for Ming Court, but even better quality of ood, ambinence, cutlery, service and cost. A meal for two would slit your purse to the extent of Rs, 800-Rs, 1000
Tadka: As described above for Mehfil, great ambience, but even better quality of food, ambinence, cutlery, service and cost. A meal for two would cost easily Rs.800
Serengeti: This is a beautiful theme restaurant depicting the outdoor life of African jungles and has a lovely cuisine to back it up. It also is a very very expensive restaurant and can be visited for that special occasion. A meal for two could cost you around Rs.1, 000
Please note all above costing is excluding drinks of any kind. I could have written even more in detail but got tired of typing such a long review as doing a review for 11 restaurants at one go as understand is a very tough task. Finally, to sum it up Ohris as a brand name is excellent and spells quality, excellent service at all places, tasty and if not economical but reasonable value for your money. So do not hesitate to step into any of the above restaurants and order what you may want from the menu and it is difficult to find that the quality is not acceptable. I may sound as if I am promoting Ohris but let me assure you I am not.
Please rate my review & Bon Appetite!
