Church Street (perpendicular to Brigade Road for the uninitiated) itself is quite cosy, with quite a few hang-outs like Amoeba, Java City, Nasa Pub and Highgates Hotel. On it is this even more cosier restaurant, which is quite easy to give a miss. The only distinguishing mark could be the not-so-big green umbrella-like roof at the entrance, that also serves as a name-board.
If you notice closely, you can see the clay-like walls, with art-work reminiscent of the Indus Valley Civilization. That continues in full flow on the inside, along with dim light arrangements. Ethnicity again spills over to the furniture and finally the food.
The menu is actually quite limited (on just two sides of a sheet / board), restricted to Avadhi (?) / Tandoori cuisine. A true North Indian flavour is available whether you taste a Phulka or have Saag Palak by the side. The quantity is just adequate and the Indian breads are quite light; so, you dont end up with a heavy stomach to move out of the place.
The prices cant be termed pocket-friendly; but if youre willing to spend a bit extra on a hungry afternoon, this is the place to enjoy your meal.
The service is just fine, neither impressive nor irritating. The place is quite small and hence a crowded time might not be a great experience. Nevertheless, with Radio City in the background, privacy for talking is not an issue. The restaurant probably overflows during the weekend. But there is a person who takes down your name to call you when they have a place; till then, there are a few chairs outside to sit and wait.
Due to the size, this is not really a good place to treat a big gang, unless of course you go at an empty time. Its just ideal for people who want to relish good quality North Indian food and dont mind spending more than what they would do at Sukh Sagar / Shanti Sagar.
