When you titled your work Revolution 2020, one anticipates a soul searching, revolutionary story about a society in desperate need of transformation. Revolution 2020, on the other hand, never gets near. Instead, it devolves into a cliched love store with little to do with political and social change. It is almost as though Bhagat wants to cash in on the anti corruption campaign. To say the story is exceeding brief would be the understatement of the year.
To summarise the plit, Gopal adores his childhood friend Aarti, who adores their mutual friend Raghav. In Bhagats universe, Gopal becomes a tremendous failure simply because he did not pass the IIT/NIT entrance examinations. As a result, he naturally becomes corrupt and successful. Raghav, on the other hand, beins dating Aarti, obtains his engineering degree and becomes a reporter. And Aarti is possibly one of the stupidest characters to have appeared in contemporary fiction.
Her character has even lesser depth and understanding possibility than a kid: that is if the kid has a mental challenge. What will become of them in the end? You wouldnt care.
To conclude:
There is no depth to the storyline. Chetan Bhagat has sleep walked throughout the entire storyline and I guess it is only fair if you would do the same. As I said earlier, he is the least knowledgable published writer to come out of India in the recent past years. His books about his own life, "Five Point Someone" and "2 states" were worse and when he tries his hand at a total fictional work, which requires total imagination, he fails drastically, which at last, is not a good outcome for a writer of fiction.
