Very good phone for the money you pay for it

*Keep in mind the following:

  • D900i price is an average 190 euros (220$).

  • This is a phone NOT a camera (and for sure NOT a professional photo camera like many would like. Because I’ve seen many who complain about photo quality..and even compare it to Nokia..PLS don’t do that. A Nokia phone that has an equivalent for D900i’s camera starts at 300 euros minimum)

  • it’s a SAMSUNG. If you like Nokia (or something else) buy a Nokia, don’t buy a Samsung and then complain that it’s not a Nokia. I love Nokia but they have a totally different approach for their latest phones.

  • all my opinions are based on my experience with: Samsung D900 (1 year), D900i (4 months), Nokia N70 (~18 months), Nokia N80 (~8 months).

PROS: **- design and

overall material look (very good plastic quality)

  • very easy to

navigate through menus, good shortcuts

  • smooth slider

  • very good sound

quality (mp3 player, speaker, calls) comparing even to a Nokia N70 or N80.

-* CAMERA: *- very

good quality for daytime

  • you can make many manual settings

that improve the quality of the photos (the settings can really make a

difference)

  • very good flash light (good balance

between light power and battery consumption. I took 46 photos with flassh light

in a row with a full battery and only dryed out a line from the battery)

  • good photo resolution

quality - fine-100dpi

  • superfine-150dpi at 3MP (A3 printing format at very good quality)

  • good macro quality (with autofocus) –

not perfect but good

  • good

recording and voice recording quality (in low noise spaces)-on superfine

  • 1 sec. for camera mode activation

  • camera lens

protected in slide off position (increases lens lifetime)

  • vivid messages

  • the uStuff

  • PASSWORD lock for all phones

content (messages, images, videos, folders..etc) – VERY USEFULL

  • 2GB microSD support

  • I read somewhere that you cannot

minimize the media player. That’s not true. When in media player with a track

playing hit the red button (end call\switch off) and you go to main screen with

the music still playing. Hit right arrow key and you’re back in media player. (If

that is not enough then buy a Symbian or WinMobile phone and install a proffesional player

on it ;))

-very nice Timer and Cronometer graphics

CONS: - no 3G (this is not actualy a con because at this price its not

even a problem. And lets be serious, how many of us use 3G or even have a

network that supports that)

- cannot

add or modify messege tones

  • SHORT BATTERY

LIFE if you use all the features like you

suppose to (mp3 player, radio, camera, phone calls) the battery has a maximum 2

days life. In my opinion this is one of the BIGGEST CONS for this phone. (I

compare this to my Nokia which has a minium 4 days battery life at maximum

usage...but then again that may not be the best comparation).

  • CAMERA *:

  • bad quality for night photos (but keep in mind that even good photo cameras

have problems with this one)

-

long time (2-2.5 sec.) for autofocus.

  • recording at night time…POOR – don’t try that

  • many folders are restricted when

connected to PC via USB cable

  • VERY HARD to install new

applications (you need a series of softwares and some access codes for the phone. And over all you can really mess up your phone software if the application you install are not the right version. Anyway…is DOable).

  • kind of slow on Internet navigation. But then again I compare this with Nokia N80 and I shouldn’t do

that. So…erase that  :))

  • NOT what I expected at the CUSTOMIZIBILITY part :))). Luckly the Samsung themes and skins are pretty good. But if you are one of that persons that likes to customize out of his\her phone you may be unsatisfied with D900i. But for a fair price you can find a lot of things over Samsung funclub site.

  • POOR inter connectivity and transfer options between microSD card and phone

  • I would have like to have some more Profiles (like Nokia silent, meeteing, general etc type). But this is OK

too. I like to have 3 profiles: silent, only vibration and ringer+vibration. On

D900i you can only have silent or vibration at a time. If you want to switch them you have to take a journey between menus:)))).

  • MEDIA PLAYER playlist limited to 30 tracks. If you want to add more then 30 tracks you got to make another

playlist

  • INDEED the manual is very very bad… it’s for someone that never had a phone before and will only use this one to make and receive calls :))) If you wanna find detailed stuff about what the phone can do you can do it only by yourself.

  • very hard to find cases for it

  • finger prints all over the screen

  • NOT fully compatible with some bluetooth headset :))…but who cares

  • You cannot set radio station names. It stores only the frequency.

  • I don’t really care about the GAMES so I will not discuss their quality or number. I would have preferred some application instead.

FINAL

Anything that is not said on CONS it’s a PRO…overall is a very good phone for.

the price you pay for it. Enjoy it, and if you have the money buy a Nokia N80…that

is a tuning phone :))
