Filmon ke Saare Hero Mere aage hain Zero

Today the movie for review is ...Yes you are right... SWARG.

SWARG was not a very big hit in terms of Box Office Collections or popularity. But it was a morale boosting one for the now famous David

Dhawan and Govinda.

Those were the times of Himmatwalas, Mawalis, Ganga Jamuna Sarawathi, Pyar ka Mandir, etc. There was a growing influence of movies from South India which were successful. The heros wore white shoes to match their white dress and heroines were dressed in a full fledged professional dance performance(mainly Bharatnatyam)costumes and the pair dancing on the Big Tablas near the seashore with at least a 100 extras moving along with them.

I really admire those extra dancers who take extreme care not to overperform the heroes most of whom were really so bad at it.

Many movies have been made on family dramas with sentimental stuff. And that too it has been stuffed like the masalas put in an Afghani Kabab.

SWARG could have been one of those but luckily it missed the bus. Otherwise I would not have been glad to write this review. ;-)

After editing movies like Saaransh and Love Story, David Dhawan ventured into direction. His initial stint was not good with a series of flops like Taaqatwar, Gola Barood, Aag ka Gola, etc. He desperately needed some sort of good movie. So he teamed up with Govinda to make this family entertainer. Govinda on the other hand had not made the sort of mark that can make producers to risk their money on him. SWARG did not do a whole lot good but yes it made people to recognise their abilities.

Ok..lets start with the story.

Kumar(Rajesh Khanna) is a successful businessman and Janaki(Madhavi) is his wife. He has his 3 siblings Ravi(Dilip Dhawan), Vicky(Raja Bundela) and Jyoti(Juhi Chawla) who are children of his step mother. He promises his dying mother that in order to take proper care to his siblings, he will not have his own children.Naina(Neena Gupta) is Ravi’s wife. Krishna(Govinda) is an orphan who stays with this family after Kumar brings him one day from a temple when he is a small boy.

Krishna does nothing than helping all in the family on their daily activities and acts like a thread connecting all these together. At times he entertains everybody with is acting(imitating)skills. They all live in a house titled SWARG.

The story takes a turn when Kumar loses his house and business to a manipulated competitor played by Paresh Rawal. This causes the breaking of Kumar’s sister marriage and the downfall begins with heavy debts to be paid. The brothers also differ in their attitude towards Kumar. After a petty incident of theft, Kumar forces Krishna who is more dearer to him than his brothers to leave the house thinking of his welfare.

Krishna leaves the house without understanding why his saahabji didn’t trust him nd tries to make it big in Mumbai film Studios. What happens in the end? Does Krishna meet his saahabji?

To find out, watch the movie. It will not be that big a task.

Direction:

David Dhawan, having assisted Hrishikesh Mukherjee has got that knack of keeping the viewers engrossed all the time. His movies appeal even to people from small places. He gives us light entertainment through his movies. Do you want to watch a serious movie after a tiring day? No...And that’s what he does. He tries to relieve you from the your serious jobs in the day and just relaxes you. Same here in between some senti scenes, he puts some interesting events which help you to sit through all the movie. He takes care of minute details which matter to the cinemagoer in a village or small town. For example, when Juhi asks Govinda for his autograph after his becoming a big movie star, Govinda signs as Krishna in Hindi. Thats it. He is still the same Krishna.

Govinda:

Chichi is a spirited actor and he does his role of Krishna as swiftly as any professional actor. He is the highlight of this movie as at times when you feel like getting bored, he energises you/.This movie recognised him as a performer in family dramas too. Later on he went to do similar roles in ’Bhabhi’ and ’Sindoor’. More importantly, he could gain complete faith of David and the rest is history.

He is one actor who can as easily with any actor no matter what.

Kaka(Rajesh Khanna):

His role and performance was close to the Avtaar Singh one from ’Avtaar’. But not to that extent. Little lesser role for him.

Madhavi:

The Dhoop Ki Rani...sorry ...Roop Ki Rani of Amitabh’s giraftar was neither matching to Kaka nor impressive with her Hindi accent.

Juhi Chawla:

Juhi had no role in this movie except for dancing a song with Govinda on the hills of Mahabaleshwar with her lightning(chamakti) bindis and dresses. But then she became a pet of David and was part of many of his movies later on...Bol radha Bol... Mr & Mrs. Khiladi, ...Deewana Mastana, etc.

Satish Kaushik:

As Govinda’s friend Airport, was OK.

Paresh Rawal:

Paresh Rawal was true to his character as usual. This time, his speciality was the Gujarati Kahavatey(sayings) translated in Hindi very much appropriate like this one.....

Bahadur ka Saath bahaduri deti hain...

Aur Darpok Ka Dar.../

Music by Anand Milind.

Lyrics by Sameer.

Songs..

1)Filmon Ke Saare hero Mere aage Hain Zero...and Bam Bam Bambai can be watched for govinda’s movements with his mouth open and showing all his upper teeth. He really njoys his dances...Doesn’t he?

2)Kaise kate Din Kaisi Kati Raatein is OK.....only thing for Juhi in the movie..

Hope you all watch it. Need I mention to post comments?
