I have read this newspaper first when I was travelling to Siliguri and staying at one of my relative’s home. I always like to read local newspaper whenever I am in a new location be in inside Bengal or in other state. So, when I got the chance to read this one, I started reading it just to get an idea about the local places in North Bengal.
This paper is the first one to be published outside of Kolkata and it started its journey in 1980. More or less, I feel it like Anandabazar Patrika in its writing style and taste. It mainly covers news from Siliguri and other places in North Bengal. It is printed and published from Siliguri, Malda and Coochbehar.
It is a standard 12 page newspaper with supplements published on Saturday and Sunday. It covers local news as well as state and national news too. Undoubtedly, it is quite popular for the people of North Bengal due to its local connections. I could not relate to all the news as I am not familiar with all the places in North Bengal.
There are lots of advertisements covering the papers mainly related to North Bengal. As North Bengal is very close to Assam, it also covers stories from Guwahati, Shillong, Agartala too.
There is no special stuff in this newspaper, as I said it is a standard newspaper covering regional news mainly. I have read columns and stories in their Sunday supplements page and the standard is just OK.
