Never again!

Flew from MUM to LHR and back in it’s inaugural week of service, I actually was in the third flight ever from Mumbai. I had great expectations of this airline, I read such rave reviews all over the internet, I saw the adevertisements in the papers promising a comfortable, classy journey etc. etc. I was really looking forward to the flight. Unfortunately, it turned out to be all hype.

There is almost nothing special about VA to set it aside from other airlines, atleast in the economy class. The seats were unbelievably hard and very cramped. They’ve got the configuration on this aircraft all wrong, there is hardly any leg room and all the tall people were almost standing throughout the flight, I knew something was wrong when they announced that they encourage people to walk about during the flight, well yeah, cos if you sit too long you might feel claustrophobic and your knees might get locked!

The food was absolutely horrible. I cannot believe how they could not get this right, the food was from TAJ-SATS caterers but it was sparse and hardly edible, on other flights from MUM the food has almost always been very good. VA just hasn’t put enough thought into this, I would realise that it’s just as awful on the way back also.

The only saving grace was the entertainment system on board. Plenty of TV channels and movies to choose from, many radio stations, games etc. It was mind blowing, if it weren’t for that I don’t know how I’d spend the 9.5 hr flight! I watched 2 movies on the flight, and about 3 Simpsons episodes :) Mind you, the system is a tad complicated and many older passengers had no idea how to work it, I really felt bad for these people. On the return flight, the system was completely down and such a big dissapointment.

All in all, I’d rate my experience on VA on this sector as poor. That VA has not tried very hard to impress passengers on this sector is very evident. Considering the fact that the tickets on this sector are not any cheaper than other airlines, I would definately recommend alternatives. Infact, I would highly recommend Emirates, with a stop-over at Dubai. The services is a lot better, the food is great and there’s something about stopping over at Dubai that just makes the journey nice n relaxed.
