I was actually not very interested in going for the album at the first place. As I liked Darans composition in his earlier film "parijatham" I decided to try a single track. I saw "rap theme" and thought man! Daran also joined the bandwagon of music director who never realise that we listen to the song for the feeling we derive from them. So I chose " Mayavi Neeya" and I should tell you the prelude is one of the most soothing start I heard in a long time. The composition and use of instruements is very good.
One of the unique thing about this song is even though you could see interlude of fast beats it still haunts you every time you hear that. This song made me buy all the other tracks as well. Next track I listened was O Nenje!, having developed a disliking for excessive use of rap music in tamil filmi music, I did not have high hope for this album. Indeed I chose this song for Dr.Burn for his tamil rap.
Unlike the usual rap he uses the words which we often hear in our daily life and there are no obscene lyrics which are quite common in english rap. The song sounded too soft for an interlude rap and oh! boy! daran seemlessly fused them together and Swetha is one promising singer to look out for. Haricharan is at his best as usual. Having said this I expected one of the two tracks (O Nenje! and remix) to have just the song and no rap as I liked the feel.
Next track was Neruppum which starts with some kind of middle eastern feel and like his mentor he uses a lot of gibberish in the middle. Infact, Daran should avoid too many of them as it tend to give it a Harris signature to it. But the song is a kind of dance floor song like all others in the album. I am not sure why daran used Sunitha Sarathys voice in such a way.
One of the big letdown for the album is the sivi theme music as it looks like just an improvisation from Anniyan s theme by his mentor Harris Jeyaraj. Overall this album is the true launchpad for daran who deserves a big break. And its a must buy for all music lovers.
